  • Lego Ideas

LEGO announced recently the winner of its LEGO Ideas Winter 2014 Review. The selected LEGO set idea celebrates women in the fields of science like paleontology, chemistry, and astronomy, among others.

The idea was submitted by a Dutch isotope geochemist and LEGO fan, Ellen Koojiman, also known by her blogger name as Alatariel Elensar.

Koojiman also shared the good news on her blog, saying, “My collaboration with The LEGO Group has been an amazing experience and I would like to thank the whole team for the excellent work and Steen in particular for the great design improvements. Cheers to science and good play!”

The set, which hits the shelves in August 2014, will be called the “LEGO Research Institute”.

Each year, LEGO accepts proposals from fans on their ideas for a new LEGO set via their website ideas.lego.com. People can then vote for their favorite LEGO set idea, and those which get at least 10,000 votes go through the “LEGO Review”. The top six are then tested for stability, playability, safety, market fit, and more, until a winning set is chosen for mass production.
