Pantone's Color Of The Year Is A Classic Shade That Will Make You Feel Happy And CalmIt's also a strong visual symbol of a fresh start.by Kitty Elicay .
If Pantone’s Color of the Year this 2019 was a vibrant shade of ‘Living Coral’, next year’s hue is quite the opposite. It’s a more subdued and calming deep blue shade called ‘Classic Blue,’ which the company says “is a color that anticipates what’s going to happen next.”
“When we look at the world around us, we know that we’re living with a lot of unrest, where some days we don’t feel quite as secure,” Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute tells Architectural Digest. “Blue, from an emotional, psychological standpoint, has always represented a certain amount of calm and dependability. It’s a color that you can rely on.”ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOWCONTINUE READING BELOWRecommended Videos
Laurie Pressman, Vice President of Pantone told Time that the deep blue shade is reminiscent of the sky at dusk, which is probably why the color resonates with so many people. “It’s not a midnight blue, it’s thoughtful, but it’s not so deep and mysterious,” she tells the website, adding that the color is “reassuring, but thought-provoking.”
It’s also a strong visual symbol of a fresh start. “We’re returning to classics because everything has been chaotic in the world,” Pressman said. “It’s not about doing it like you did in the past, but reinterpreting it.”
The classic hue is certainly approachable, relatable, and most of all, timeless. It can make you happier, too!
Sue Kim, a color expert, says incorporating similar tones, like sky blue, in your home helps promote a positive vibe. "This light, airy blue is instantly calming and helps to restore natural rhythms," she tells CountryLiving.com. "Growing evidence links sleep to productivity, and overall well-being and blue provides soothing and restorative qualities that can help improve rest,” she explains.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Decorating your baby's nursery with shades of blue can also help create a serene environment where your child can feel relaxed. Houzz.com explains that it “decreases feelings of anxiety and aggression and lowers blood pressure and heart rates.”
Whether you choose to wear it or decorate your homes with it, Classic Blue is a color that will not go out of style for many years to come. Pressman suggests choosing accent pieces like a scarf or watch strap, or a vase or candle for your home or workplace.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
