Paolo Contis recently opened up about a concern most parents, especially dads, share: the prospect of their children dating. Although his daughters are still young, he expressed worries about the kind of partners they may choose in the future, fearing they might find guys with his traits.
The actor has three daughters: Xonia Aitana and Xalene Abriana from his estranged wife Lian Paz, and Summer Ayana with ex-partner LJ Reyes.
In an episode of the "Your Honor" podcast with hosts Tuesday Vargas and Buboy Villar, Paolo admitted that while he's always been ready for the day his daughters start dating, the thought of them ending up with "someone like his younger self" scares him.
When asked how he would react if his daughters found themselves in rough relationships similar to his past ones, he quickly said, "'Yun ang number one na ikinakatakot ko."
As the conversation shifted to the possibility of his daughters dating someone like his younger self, he bluntly stated, "Sasampalin ko agad," referring to the version of himself from years ago.
He elaborated, "Ever since naman, the goal is to be a guy na ['yung tipong] gusto mong manligaw sa mga anak mo ay tulad mo. Sadly, you make mistakes. Now, masasabi ko na 'yung Paolo mga 10 or 15 years ago, naku. Diyos ko Lord. Sasampalin ko talaga 'yan."
Tuesday followed up on Paolo's answer to ask, does this mean he's changed "immensely"?
"It is an ongoing process," Paolo replied. "I cannot say I'm... pero di ba, nandoon ka na sa process ng pagbabago. Alam mo na 'yung mga mali mo, iniisa-isa mo na 'yung mga mali, tinatama mo na 'yung mali. I'm 40 so, kailangan na 'yun di ba?" he said.
The podcast host affirmed Paolo in response. "I've seen you for most of the decades of your life, ano talaga ang tao, hindi talaga napapako sa isang ugali," Tuesday said.
