When the COVID-19 pandemic broke out in early 2020, Rich Asuncion and her husband Benj Mudie decided to move, by March that year, to Australia with their young daughter Bela.
Four months later, the finalist in the 2009 season of GMA-7's talent search, StarStruck, shared with her Instagram followers how her family's doing in the Australian capital of Canberra. That's where Benj, a Filipino-Aussie, was born and raised before trying his luck in the Philippines as a model and rugby player.
Rich said in a July 2020 post that she finally found a job as a waitress in a restaurant, and she was so thrilled to have gotten her first paycheck (read here).
"Nung una nahirapan ako tanggapin," she admitted, "pero na-realize ko ngayon, ano naman ang masama 'don. Part pa rin naman siya ng Tourism course na kinuha ko sa UP. At wala akong karapatan maginarte kasi nabigyan ako panibagong chance to start anew."
Since then, Rich has been sharing an update on her and her family's life Down Under. She announced in September 2020 that Bela, now 3 years old, was going to be an ate. Then just last November 2021, their family of three was featured in a government-sponsored commercial.
By December, Rich shared another good news. "Finally, a house we can call our own," she said in the caption of her post showing her and her family posing in front of what she called "a dream come true for the #mudsquad!"
The happy homeowner went on explaining how they did it, "Ben and I have never worked so hard ( and fought so hard) in our time together. But I have to give it to you Papa @benjmudie for being headstrong and focused on our goal. Like I said before, you are an excellent leader."
She then made a wish: "Looking forward to making wonderful memories here with my growing family."
