EO for smoking ban signed
President Rodrigo Duterte has signed Executive Order no. 26, which prohibits smoking in enclosed public spaces and public transportation nationwide and implements programs that encourage people to stop smoking. The EO states that there should be no designated smoking areas in schools, including colleges and universities, youth hostels, and recreational facilities for minors. A 'no-smoking policy will also be implemented strictly on elevators and stairwells, gas station, and storage areas with inflammable material, within hospitals, health centers, and food preparation areas. A building should have only one designated smoking area, and it must be located in or within 10 meters from entrances, exits, or any place where people pass or congregate. Minors are also not allowed in designated smoking areas. (inquirer.net)
DPWH planning to build Cavite-Tagaytay-Batangas Expressway
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is studying an infrastructure proposal that aims to link Cavite, Tagaytay, and Batangas via an expressway. According to the DPWH, the Metro Pacific Investments Corp. pitched the project to provide an alternative route for commuters and motorists who frequent the south, the Inquirer reports. The proposal estimates the cost to be at least P22 billion. The expressway will stretch 46 kilometers, starting in Silang, Cavite and ending in Nasugbu, Batangas. It will also be connected to the Cavite Expressway (Cavitex) and the planned Cavite-Laguna Expressway if it gets approved. (fhm.com.ph)
More 30-something women are having babies
According to new data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), women in their 30s are now having more children than women in their 20s. The data collected by the agency from 2016 shows that the birth rate for females aged 30 to 34 jumped to about 102.6 births per 1,000 women from 101.5 per 1,000 in 2015. For women aged 35 to 39. the birth rate also increased slightly from 51.8 to 52.6 per 1,000. Meanwhile, the birth rate for females aged 25 to 29 decreased from 104.3 per 1,000 in 2015 to 101.9 per 1,000 in 2016. For women 20 to 24, the birth rate also fell from 76.8 to 73.7.
