With all the holiday shopping and spending, the new year comes with a subtle reminder: learn how to spend wisely.
We try to start different approaches to managing, spending, and investing our money. Some parents from Smart Parenting Village also shared helpful tips that made their money-handling successful.
If you’re still on Day 1 of learning how to spend wisely—don’t worry—it’s still not too late. SMAC, the customer loyalty arm of SM Retail, Inc. can help you jumpstart this journey.
Running until January 31, 2024, SMAC, in partnership with Globe, donates part of its proceedings to The Hapag Movement. The Hapag Movement is an initiative that aims to help Filipino families battling involuntary hunger.
With every spend using SMAC or just by getting an SMAC, part of your spending helps families suffering from involuntary hunger! Every purchase is an opportunity to give back to those in need! That’s wise spending.

The Hapag Movement
For every purchase of SMAC, or any spend using SMAC, part of it goes to families in need. The Hapag Movement aims to help low-income families, especially those who lost their livelihood during the pandemic. Around 15 million Filipinos experience involuntary hunger each year, and about 2.76 million are still unemployed.
The Hapag Movement’s first run in 2023 successfully gathered Php 5.5M donations, with the support of SM Brands, SM retail affiliates, and SMAC members. Due to its success from the previous year, its second run was launched on December 15, 2023, together with SMAC and SM Brands. “Ibalik and sarap ng Pasko,” was the movement’s tagline, and true enough, with its success last year, The Hapag Movement brought back the true meaning of Christmas to the families in need.
Each SMAC Kit bought at SM Stores turns into a meaningful contribution, with P50 from every sale going to The Hapag Movement and SM Foundation.
Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer at Globe said, “The Hapag Movement is about creating lasting change. Our partnership with SMAC shows how collaboration and shared values can create a powerful force for good. As we enter our second year, we remain dedicated to harnessing the power of technology and community to make a tangible difference in the lives of those we serve.”
Jay Beltran, Head of Sales and Marketing, Digital Advantage Corporation (DAC), which operates SMAC, also said, “We have been moved and inspired into action by The Hapag Movement as it fights a major issue in the country today. We believe and have seen the malasakit of our brands and members based on the results from last year’s campaign, where we raised PHP5.5M through our member purchases. Not only did we help make Christmas get brighter last year, but it also became much more meaningful. This is what inspired us to do another round of the Hapag Movement campaign this year.”
