Ever Imagined Darth Vader as a Barbie Doll? Check Out These Star Wars Barbies! We never thought we needed Princess Leia as a Barbie doll!by Kate Borbon .
Just when we thought we couldn’t love Barbie dolls more, Mattel, the company behind the iconic dolls, has just announced a collection of Barbies inspired by characters from the beloved Star Wars franchise!
The Star Wars x Barbie collection is part of the anticipation for the premiere of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in December 2019. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the three dolls included in the line are inspired by concept art for the original Star Wars film, which was released in 1977. The dolls are not simply dressed up in Star Wars cosplay; instead, their costumes are given a modern, high-fashion twist, perfectly aligned with the Barbie we have come to know and love.
The three Star Wars characters that inspired the Barbie dolls in the collection are Princess Leia, R2-D2, and Darth Vader. Each doll dons a truly stunning outfit: Leia Barbie, for instance, wears a more dramatic version of the well-known white gown worn by Princess Leia in the film A New Hope — and, of course, she has on the iconic cinnamon bun hairstyle.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOWCONTINUE READING BELOWRecommended Videos
R2-D2 is known as the blue and silver droid which served Padmé Amidala, Anakin Skywalker, and Luke Skywalker. R2-D2 Barbie, meanwhile, sports bright blue hair, a geometric dress and jacket combo, thigh-high boots, and gorgeous eye make-up.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Finally, we can’t forget the iconic Darth Vader and his majestic black cape and helmet. While Vader Barbie doesn’t wear a helmet, she is donning a flowing cape and a leather dress, accessorized with a pair of dark sunglasses.
Here’s some more exciting news: A representative from Mattel has told Business Insider that the three dolls are just the first round of more Barbies inspired by iconic characters from the Star Wars franchise, which means that there is still time to hope for dolls resembling your other favorite characters.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
In past years, Mattel has also created Barbie dolls inspired by different celebrities, movie and TV characters, and cultural icons. For instance, there were Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman dolls based on the film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice; Edward and Bella dolls based on the Twilight franchise; and Katniss Everdeen from the Hunger Games franchise. Iconic artist Frida Kahlo and royal couple Prince William and Kate Middleton also have Barbie dolls made in their likeness.
The Star Wars x Barbie collection is to be released in November this year, though it can be pre-ordered in the US right now. We can only hope the dolls are going to be made available in the Philippines as well!
