A new two-part study reassures parents whose babies were born via C-section that they are not at greater risk for developing autism. Researchers with the Irish Center for Fetal and Neonatal Translational Research analyzed data of children born in the past three decades. Children born via C-section were 20-percent more likely to be diagnosed with autism, but among the 13,400 pairs of siblings in the study, one child was diagnosed with autism and the other was not. Ergo, the link was most likely due to the unknown genetic or environmental factors and not because of how the children were delivered. (huffingtonpost.com)

    2. Vaccine bill approved by assembly
The California Assembly approved a bill that would require nearly all public schoolchildren to be vaccinated -— a major hurdle passed as it now seeks approval of California Governor Jerry Brown. The bill aims to vaccinate nearly all children, rejecting previous exceptions such as religion or personal beliefs, after the recent measles outbreak. Only children with serious health issues, such as a compromised immune system, could be exempted. If the bill is passed, California would have the strictest vaccine laws in the U.S. (yahoo.com)
