Top of the Morning: Denise Laurel Shares Secret to Not Raising A Spoiled Child

Plus, watch the heartwarming Globe and 'Rouge One' ad, Saint West turns 1, and more!

1. Denise Laurel shares secret to raising a child who is not spoiled

Single mom Denise Laurel feels lucky that her five-year-old son Alejandro does not throw tantrums like other kids his age, even describing him as a "sweet, considerate boy". Her secret? "I explain everything to him, and I give reasons for everything, so hindi siya nagta-tantrums because he sees the point," she says. Denise is confident that she won't have have to deal with such problems because she herself grew up living a simple life. "No yaya, no driver, you know, very simple. I grew up without house help... so I learn from my parents, pick up from them, from where they left off. I learned independence, including cleaning the house," she says. Denise believes that it's important to set a good example to Alejandro -- and it looks like it's paying off. The little boy "sweeps the floor", "mops and stuff like that," says his mother. At the moment, Denise is trying to teach Alejandro a valuable lesson: that for anything in life he wants, he needs to work for it. (pep.ph)

2. Watch the heartwarming Globe and 'Rouge One' ad

Telecom company Globe partnered with Disney Southeast Asia to produce one of the most heartwarming Christmas ads this year. It features a young girl so shy, she always wears a Stormtrooper helmet. She loves everything Star Wars, but there's another reason why she always has the mask on: to hide the oxygen mask she doesn't want her friends to see. The ad is part of Globe's #Create campaign to promote and protect the rights of Filipino girls and young women with the help of the magic of a galaxy far, far away. (mashable.com)

3. Kim and Kanye's Saint West turns 1!

watch now

The youngest child of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West turned 1 on Monday, December 5, and of course the whole family greeted him and wished him a happy birthday! "I can't believe this was one year ago today. Happy birthday my little Sainty," wrote the bio's auntie Kourtney Kardashian on Instagram. His grandmother Kris Jenner also posted a birthday greeting on the photo-sharing social media site. Noticeably absent from social media are Saint's parents. Since Kim's robbery incident and Kanye's alleged breakdown, the two have been keeping a low profile online. Kim's best friend Jonathan Cheban shared a birthday message of his own and a new photo of the birthday boy cuddling with Mom. "I can't believe today is Saint's first birthday! One thing people may not know about me is that I'm obsessed with babies, in honor of his birthday, I convinced Kim to let me share some never-before-seen pics on her app!" Happy birthday, Saint! (people.com)

4. The British Royal Family in ugly Christmas sweaters!

Okay, they are only wax figures of Queen Elizabeth II, Kate Middleton, Prince William, and Prince Harry, but seeing them would still bring a smile to your face. Madame Tussauds London unveiled a special version of the Royal family's wax figures today, each of them wearing ugly (read: festive but tacky) Christmas knit sweaters. Kate and William even share one! The Queen's dogs are also included, of course. The exhibit, which was really done in the spirit of Christmas and giving, is part of non-profit organization Save The Children's Christmas Jumper Day campaign on December 16. The wax figures will only be available to view this month. (instyle.com)

5. Watch the teaser for Spider-Man: Homecoming

After the events of Captain America: Civil War, where we first saw the friendly neighborhood teen superhero join The Marvel Cinematic Universe, it looks like Peter Parker got another upgrade from Tony Stark himself. The 15-second clip features Jon Favreau, reprising his Iron Man role as Happy, presents Peter Parker, played by Tom Holland, with some sort of new superhero suit with webbed arms. We’ll have to wait another day for more details, however, as Marvel and Sony promised to drop the Spider-man: Homecoming's first trailer tomorrow. (forbes.com)
