Top of the Morning: Dingdong Dantes Reveals Baby’s GenderThe parents-to-be are so excited for their bundle of joy
1. Dingdong Dantes reveals baby’s gender
Actor and producer Dingdong Dantes took to his Instagram account to finally reveal his and wife actress Marian Rivera’s baby’s gender. It’s a girl! One of his posts showed two pink baby bibs that had “Daddy’s lil’ lady” and “Pretty like mommy” designs. On the caption, he wrote, “Pretty soon, we will have to make a decision on what she should wear first.” On another post, there's a photo showing Marian and Father Tito Caluag, thanking him for “blessing his girls.” (pep.ph)
2. Court okays spanking; parenting experts disagree
A Massachusetts court ruled that parents couldn’t be held criminally liable for spanking their children, as long as they use “reasonable” force and don’t cause kids physical or mental distress, as it overturned a man’s conviction for spanking his then three-year-daughter. The court was, however, clear that when the distinction between discipline and abuse is blurred, the court will always be in favor of the safety and protection of children. Parenting experts still stress that though spanking is permissible, it’s still not advisable. (yahoo.com)
3. Should men freeze their sperm at age 18?
British bioethicist Dr. Kevin Smith urges all 18-year-old males to freeze their sperm for later use in life as a precaution due to the health risks attached to being an older dad. More men are having children later in life, around age 33, and “it’s time we took seriously the issue of paternal age and its effect on the next generation of children,” he said. Chairman of the British Fertility Society Professor Adam Balen, however, reiterated that there is no need for men to start freezing their sperm at such an early age. (popsugar.com)
4. Skinny jeans can cause severe nerve damage
Don’t squat for too long when you’re wearing skinny jeans! A 35-year-old woman was hospitalized for four days after experiencing muscle damage, swelling, and nerve blockages in her legs after squatting for several hours while wearing tight-fitting jeans. Doctors filed a report about the case, which was published in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry, which indicated that the patient complained her feet went numb, making her trip and fall after a day of squatting while emptying cupboards. 5. Mom and baby rescued after four days in the jungle
A mother and her infant son, both of whom were in a plane that crashed during a flight from Nuqui to Quibodo, Choco department in Colombia, were rescued after four days in the jungle. “Miracle” mom Nelly Murillo, 18, and son Yudier Moreno, less than a year old, were discovered near the site where the plane crashed.
