2. “Normal Barbie” doll gets her period
The Lammily Doll -- also known as the “Normal Barbie” doll with realistic body proportions and comes with accessories such as pimples, cellulite, and scars -- is getting her period. Yes, you read that right. Creator Nickolay Lamm said of the doll’s milestone, “It’s just what happens in real life. We wanted to put it on the doll so it’s not a scary thing.” The Lammily Doll getting her period is a fun way to explain the menstrual cycle to kids, he added. When you buy the kit, it comes with an educational pamphlet with what to expect from a menstrual cycle, a pair of underwear, 19 colored pad, a calendar, and stickers to track periods. The genius animator behind the Totoro character is building a nature park for kids. Hayao retired from making animated movies recently but is investing 2.5 million dollars of his own money to open a 10,000-acre nature park for children -- a place where kids can play, read, sleep, and have fun to their hearts’ content. The nature park, “The Forest Where The Wind Returns”, is planned to rise on the island of Kume in Okinawa and is set to open in 2017. It will not have any man-made equipment or attractions. Instead, kids can run, jump and have fun in the giant natural playground. It will also have a library and sleeping quarters. (buzzfeed.com)
4. U.S. Senate blocks federal 20-week abortion ban bill
It was the first time that the U.S. Senate had voted. The 20-week abortion ban or the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, a measure that was already approved in the lower house, was rejected at the Senate level. The bill would have prevented women from getting an abortion after the 20th week. The American Congress of Obstetrician and Gynecologists (ACOG) applauds the decision, and said in a statement: “This bill would have represented a clear blow to women’s access to needed reproductive services and was an example of gross legislative interference. Leading medical groups agree that a 20-week ban on abortion, if passed, would interfere with the patient-physician relationship at a time when women are in need of quality, compassionate care.” (yahoo.com)ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
