We know that you value family vacations and with summer almost at our doorstep, you've been looking for places where to go and stay. Well, this may help: Trip Advisor has already come out with its list of Top 10 Hotels for Families in the Philippines (2017) based on "reviews and opinions from travelers" within a year. These hotels and resorts should have everything you need for a fun and restful getaway -- fantastic facilities, stunning scenery, ample amenities, and excellent service.
Like last year, Shangri-La's Mactan Resort in Cebu retains the number one spot with Plantation Bay Resort at its heels in second place. Aside from those two hotels and Two Seasons Coron Island Resort in Palawan, which still made it to the top 10, the remaining hotels on this year's list are new destinations. Here they are: (the comments from Trip Advisor users have been edited for clarity)
1. Shangri-La's Mactan Resort and Spa
Where: Lapu-Lapu, Cebu Why: “My children (8 and 5 years old ) fell in love with the hotel. The food, the staff, and the facility --it has everything you need to make a great family getaway. We contemplated seeing the whale sharks, but the kids didn't want to cut back on their time to play at the adventure zone and game center! The pool is a child's dream come true, and the free fish feeding on Wednesdays at the beach was awesome.” -- TripAdvisor commenter from Japan; April 2016. Hotel class: 5-star Price: $$$; Luxury See more info here.
2. Plantation Bay Resort And Spa
Where: Lapu-Lapu, Cebu Why: “I have visited this resort with my family twice in the last four years, and stayed over for two weeks each time. It is a superb resort for families with numerous activities and facilities such as huge swimming pools, beach areas, archery, rock-climbing, etc. They also offer courtesy transportation to/from the two large (and I mean very large) malls in Cebu.” -- TripAdvisor commenter from U.S.A.; April 2016. Hotel class: 5-star Price: $$$ See more info here.
3. Hotel Kimberly
Where: Tagaytay, Cavite Why: “I have stayed in this hotel with my family for a number of times since 2012. The kids love the game room, the outdoor playground, and the mini farm, most especially the rabbits (you get to feed them). There are a lot of free activities on weekends that other hotels do not offer. Breakfast is superb. Even without the view of the Taal Lake, its lush greenery and quiet location make it one of the best reasons why we keep coming back year after year.” -- TripAdvisor commenter from Parañaque City; February 2017 Hotel class: 4-star Price: $$; Mid-range See more info here.
Where: Vigan, Ilocos Sur Why: “This hotel packed the best stay we ever had in Vigan. We did not expect a fabulous hotel room or an excellent service because it is considerably less pricey than the other hotels nearby. However, we were in for a big surprise as the service was excellent, the hotel staff was the most courteous, the lobby was clean, and the hotel room was spacious. The bed was comfortable, which was useful after a tiring day walking the tough streets and touristy spots of Vigan.” -- TripAdvisor commenter; November 2015 Hotel class: 3-star Price: $$ See more info here.
5. JPark Island Resort and Waterpark
Where: Lapu-Lapu, Cebu Why: “Our entire family including the small kids visited this hotel for my father-in-law's birthday weekend, and we truly had fun! There was a play area for them, a mini golf course, kiddie pools and, of course, the beach and waterpark. The breakfast buffet was also amazing! I highly recommend this place to families who have younger kids.” -- TripAdvisor commenter from Cagayan de Oro; June 2016 Hotel class: 5-star Price: $$$ See more info here.
6. The Manor at Camp John Hay
Where: Baguio, Benguet Why: “You feel like you're in the Swiss Alps in a luxury wood log cabin when you stay at the manor. The rooms are huge, and all the rooms come with a big balcony overlooking the forest and mountains (standard rooms don't have balconies). The hotel has a huge garden, and it even has a kids’ play area tucked away in the corner section. The hotel is located in Camp John Hay, which is all pine trees, so you feel like you've escaped the noise, traffic, and pollution of cities.” -- TripAdvisor commenter from Manila; October 2016 Hotel class: 4-star Price: $$$ See more info here.
Where: Coron, Palawan Why: “Hospitality was at a high level every step of the way. Every time you need a ride to your room, they were ready to take you and pick you up at a moment’s notice. The place was well kept, and everything you needed was available. We enjoyed the swimming pool, which has a poolside bar, waterfall, kiddie water slide and shallow kid section.
At the tip of the island, there’s a sand bar that connects to an adjacent island that you can walk and enjoy its beaches. They even have big kids daycare with lots of amenities including a gaming console for slightly older kids. The hotel has complimentary kayaks and paddleboards; they even have kayaks that are clear so you can see the sea floor.” -- Trip Advisor commenter; August 2016 Hotel class: 4 1/2 stars Price: $$$ See more info here.
8. Seda Nuvali
Where: Sta. Rosa, Laguna Why: “It’s a nice place for staycation with your loved ones. Free Wifi is not bad; you can post photos directly to social media. Attractions like Nuvali, Solenad, and Vista Mall are walking distance. Your kids will enjoy the pool and play room. Buffet breakfast is also good.” -- Trip Advisor commenter; June 2016 Hotel class: 4 –star Price: $$ See more info here.
9. Awesome Hotel
Where: San Juan, La Union Why: “We spent a wonderful few days at the Awesome Hotel. We drove through the night, which only took four hours from Manila. The hotel was so accommodating to our needs, which is so important when traveling with children (I have a 5-year-old and a baby). The food was brilliant. The resort had live music in the restaurant, which created a lively atmosphere. And after our meal, they even made a beach fire for us so we could toast our marshmallows. The beds are really, really comfortable, and the rooms have everything you need. There is a little outdoor ‘sit out’ too, so you can read or just relax in peace while the children are sleeping. The pool was a big highlight for our kids, due to all the fountains, bubbles, and bar stools.” -- Trip Advisor commenter from Switzerland; November 2015 Hotel class: 4-star Price: $$ See more info here.
10. Acuatico Beach Resort and Hotel
Where: San Juan, Batangas Why: “The heated pool is its greatest asset. Kids enjoyed it a lot and could have stayed there the whole day if we didn't stop them. The view is priceless! Beach was okay. You need aqua shoes and life vests for the kids, to be on the safe side. They also have a kids’ playroom and game room, which entertained us when we weren’t out swimming. On to the not-so-good. We stayed at the Infiniti room, and it was tiny, just between 15-20 square metres inclusive of the bathroom. Speaking of bathroom, I couldn't even stretch my hands while taking a shower.” -- Trip Advisor commenter from Metro Manila; May 2016 Hotel class: 4-star Price: $$$ See more info here.
