Summer Programs Are Back! Enroll Your Kids In Sports, Arts, Or Reading Courses

With COVID-19 restrictions easing this 2022, summer programs are making a comeback. Smart Parenting gathered an exciting list of online and face to face programs and courses that will make the summer school break more meaningful for kids. 

In our search, we found a few courses that allows mom and dad to enroll and join their kids in learning new programs as well.  

Theater, Acting, & Creative Play (online)

Creative Play for Small Kids

Age: 2-4 years old

Schedule: May 24, 26, 28, 31 (TThs)

Time: 9-11 AM

Fee: Php 4,000 for 5 sessions (2 hours per session)

Children will enjoy structured playtime filled with arts and games as they bond with new friends. The course involves parents and caregivers to guide the kids every step of the way. 

Creative Play for Big Kids

Age: 5-7 years old

Schedule: May 23, 25, 27, 30, and June 1 (MWF) 

Time: 9-11 AM

Fee: Php 4,000 for 5 sessions 

Big kids will enjoy a workshop full of creative activities and games that stir their imagination and allow them to have fun with new friends.

Acting for Teens

Age: 13-17

Schedule: May 23, 24, 25, 26, 27

Time: 3-6 PM

Fee: Php 4,300 for 5 session (3 hours per session)

Immerse your teen in Philippine Educational Theater Association's (PETA) signature acting curriculum. Here, they will learn the art of channeling emotions and using body language to give a sincere and engaging performance.

Musical Theater for Teens

Age: 13-17 years old

Fee: Php 4,300 for 5 sessions (3 hours per session)

Schedule: May 23, 24, 25, 26, 27

Time: 3-6 PM

Enhance your teens’ acting talents in the comfort of your homes through this course. They will be taught the basics of vocal techniques and song interpretation. Lesson will culminate in a solo musical scene performance.

Sports

Brawler’s Lab PTA Milo Summer Taekwondo Clinic

Mode: Online or Face-to-face with 10 session per module

Age: 3 years old and up

Fee: Php 4,000 for 10 sessions consumable in 2 months time. Less Php 500 for early enrollees on or before March 31, 2022

Schedule: Lesson starts on April 2, 2022 to May 30 

Time: 5 PM (Saturdays and Sundays)

Taekwondo training center Brawler’s Lab is a member of the Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA) and has been a partner of Milo Nestle Philippines for more than two decades now. This summer, they welcome enrollees 3 years old and up for their Taekwondo classes.

“For our program, the first thing children will learn is proper discipline followed by basic techniques, foundational forms, and a combination of drills and self defense,” says coach Gabay Forlales. Teachers include coaches from the Ateneo De Manila Taekwondo team. Coach Gabay also says their courses are open to moms and dads.

Reading 

Connected Kids Book Club

Mode: Online

Level: Grades 1-6

Schedule: 3x per week with maximum of 5 students per session

Fee: P 3,500 per month 

In this club, kids get to discover books together. The reading teacher engages them in discussions and projects around the book’s theme. The club members practice their reading, listening, thinking, and speaking skills as they develop their love for leisure reading. 

Critical Reading 

Mode: Online

Level: Grades 11-12

Dates: June 9 to July 14, 2022 (12 classes) 

Schedule: TTh, 10:00-11:30 am Maximum: 8 students

Fee: Php 6,000

The course prepares students for research writing skills in the senior high school level. They will be taught how to build strong independent study skills by strengthening reading and processing different types of texts. They will concentrate on knowing author’s purpose, building meaning, and understanding text structures. Strategies, hacks and tips are shared to help students accomplish writing assignments on reading tasks.

Writing Enrichment Classes

Grammarworks

Mode: Online

Level: Grades 1 to 3 (20 classes) 

Dates: June 6 to July 7 for Batch 1 and July 11 to August 4 for Batch 2

Schedule: MTh 

Time: 1:30 to 2:30 pm Maximum: 5 students 

Fee: Php 6,500

Students will learn the basics of grammar, including parts of speech, parts of a sentence, and use of print conventions. Classes have specific goals in correct usage of language in speech and writing, and its approach applies regular practice and constructive feedback which targets improvements in sentence construction and paragraph writing. 

Descriptive Writing

Mode: Online

Level: Grades 4 and 5 (18 classes)

Dates: June 6 to July 16, 2022

Schedule: MWF, 1- 2:30 PM

Maximum: 12 students, with one-on-one writing coach 

Fee: Php 12,000

Kids will learn how to plan, write, and revise a descriptive essay that is well elaborated, focused using structured thinking.  Using a developmental approach, the teacher will deliver lessons that will enrich the students’ vocabulary and help them express their ideas, feelings, and opinions by writing cohesive paragraphs.
