Actress, fashionista, and YouTube vlogger Heart Evangelista announced on Twitter that she's giving away Cherry Mobile tablets to children who cannot afford one to use for online classes.
"For those who don't have tablets for online school please dm me on [Instagram]... I will be giving away as much tablets as I can," Evangelista said.
Evangelista is only one of several private individuals and organizations who have already started giveaways and donation drives to help provide for families who do not have access to technology that will allow kids to transition from the traditional face-to-face classes to distance learning.
The Department of Education (DepEd) announced last month that classes for the school year 2020-2021 will begin on August 24, but it doesn't necessarily mean that kids will be going to school.
Alternative teaching methods will be put in place to allow children to continue their studies amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. DepEd is looking to utilize television and radio for kids who live in areas that do not have a stable internet connection. Heart's giveaway comes in great timing as parents hurry to buy everything their kids need for distance learning.
DepEd has already started its monthlong online enrollment for almost all areas in the country. DepEd Order No. 008 which contains the enrollment guidelines for this school year, the first two weeks of enrollment will be completely remote with no face-to-face interaction.
