Bave dela Cruz of Just Cool Qualities: Chocolate FactoryThis mompreneur caters to your sweet tooth—go ahead and indulge!by Marla Miniano .
The Mompreneur: Bave dela Cruz, former bartender, currently a balloon decorator, running enthusiast, businesswoman, wife to Cris, and mom to three-year-old Quillan.
The Business: Just Cool Qualities, a home-based chocolate making business. They offer chocolate coated marshmallows, chocolate coated cornflakes, chocolate lollipops, and other sweet treats. They also accept orders for piñatas and party invitation layouts.
How It Started: “Being a stay at home mom for three years, I wanted an outlet for my creativity that would also allow me to earn some money. The acronym JCQ was derived from the first letters of our names, Jennybave, Cris, and Quillan.”
What Makes It Different: “Chocolate making is as easy as melt, mold, and serve—but we go beyond that. We melt the BEST premium chocolates. We don’t just pour and mold, we pay attention to even the smallest design details. And we serve it by personally delivering it to our clients!”
Customer Care: “On Valentine’s Day, a friend ordered heart-shaped chocolate lollipops and chocolate coated mallows for her children to sell at school. Her aim was to teach the kids the value of earning money (and eventually to become smart spenders). Her kids enjoyed their first taste of entrepreneurship so much, and we felt honored to be part of that experience.”
Future Plans: “We want to pursue the baking business alongside the chocolate making in the near future. We are still looking for and making more designs for the clients to choose from. We are also studying a delivery scheme that would reach clients from outside Metro Manila (and hopefully abroad too!).ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Work-Life Balance: “Don’t let working at home take you away from your family. Create bonding moments—my husband and son join me in buying materials for my products, and I always ask for their opinion on my new projects. My son helps me make the lollipops by putting the sticks on, while my husband helps me in balancing the sales over expenses.”
Mompreneur Advice: “Having a business at home is like having a baby. Treat your business with proper care and love. Record the milestones, and use them as a guide on how far you’ve come and the things you need to improve on. Research is also important. Never stop studying, and always update yourself on the latest trends in the industry. Use your resources wisely. Surround yourself with supportive partners and friends.”
