The Mom-preneurs: Monica Eleazar-Manzano (mom to Santi, 2) and Denise Gonzales (mom to Benny, 2).
Their Business: INDIGObaby
Monica: Denise and I were thesis mates and friends since college. During my third trimester of pregnancy, I thought hard about my career and did not want to continue working in the corporate world. I felt I needed to bond with my child and breastfeed directly. So I quit my job and invited Denise to do the same. We started selling some baby items through multiply.com and bazaars.
Monica: I read an article on The Indigo Children and it really struck an internal chord. I felt that we were born with a mission to change the world in our little way so we decided to use the name for our business. Denise: It was an interesting and catchy idea that we both loved and saw in our sons. We wanted to make local hip healthy products for modern day parents like ourselves.
Why it’s unique:
We don’t just sell our products, but a whole lifestyle. As “Yummy Mummies”, we want to influence our mommy clients that even if they are moms already, they can still be hip and beautiful. Being a mom need not be boring! We try to use our sphere of influence on our clients. We encourage them to read the labels of all products and use healthier options.
On balancing work time with family time:
Monica: This one has always been tough. I was so hands-on with Santi and the business. Imagine us selling at bazaars with our babies in slings while we breastfed! Now, with more things on my plate, I made a pledge to spend time each day with my son. Dinner onwards is family time. Weekends, too! Denise: It’s a difficult task but we're getting by. I try to work as much as I can when Benny’s napping or away. Family is always first! Thankfully, we have a secretary who is a great help and yayas that make life simpler. Our partners are very supportive too—and so are our sons!

Why they love being moms:
Monica: I love staring at my son! I have been in love with him since the day he was born. Denise: I love the fact that I am growing and learning so much from my child and from “yummymummyhood.”
Advice for other mom-preneurs:
Monica: Find your passion. Look deeply within for something that you love to do. Because if you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life! Denise: Being a mom will change you; being a mompreneur will enhance you! Follow your bliss and dare to take risks since that is what life is made for!
