The Mom-preneur: Sherry Dueñas (mother to Aaron and Sophie)

Her Business: Contour Fashion Wear

The Idea: During my first pregnancy, I had a hard time finding suitable maternity clothes for myself. I knew I was pregnant but I didn’t want to look too pregnant. It was hard to find maternity clothes that were fashionable that I could wear even after my pregnancy. That was when I decided to start designing my own clothes. People started to take notice and order from me.

Stylist in the making: I’ve always been interested in designing clothes. After realizing that my designing skills had potential, I got my husband’s 100% support and continued with what I started during my pregnancy with Aaron.  It’s a different kind of fulfillment to see other pregnant women sharing the same views as me when it comes to fashion and practicality.

Contour is unique because: I like adding my own personal style when designing my clothes. I always consider the type of things that I would wear myself and transform them into maternity clothes. I also try to ensure that my designs can still be worn well after the pregnancy.

A Second Business: Yes, I take care of my three kids—my son, my daughter and my husband. Haha! But seriously, I do have another clothing line that I have just created with my very good friend Katrina Agnes. It’s called D&A (Dueñas & Agnes), a non-maternity line which has classic cuts with modern touches.  We cater to the career moms or moms who just want to look good.

On Balancing Work with Family Time: I’m thankful that my job doesn’t take me far away from my kids.  I do most of my work at home where I can keep an eye on my children and be able to de-stress from work at the same time by getting hugs and kisses from them. 

Advice for aspiring mom-preneurs: When you put your mind and heart into doing something that you believe in, anything is possible.  Don’t ever forget to have fun along the way. Most importantly, pray and be thankful for all your blessings.
