Jeraldine Blackman and her daughter Jette are back, just a few weeks after their three-week holiday in the Philippines in April. The family of Filipino-Australian content creators were able to do a lot of firsts during their trip, including their first-ever magazine cover with Smart Parenting.
Joshua, Jeraldine, Nimo, and Jette sat down with Smart Parenting for an interview and played a game of Who's Who, revealing much about their lives as content creators famous for their relatable and wholesome skits on parenting and family life.
The Blackman Family gets real on parenting and family life
In a no-holds-barred episode of Usap Tayo, Jeraldine was proud to be chosen by their kids as the funniest, the coolest, and best-dressed parent, while Joshua was unanimously the parent who cleans the house and is the more hands-on with the kids.
"I didn't realize that Nemo and Jette noticed that I do a lot of the cleaning in the house," Joshua said.
Due to Joshua's shift work, unlike Jeraldine, who works behind the scenes to create their content, he spends more time with the kids.
Jeraldine shared, "Honestly, he plays with them most of the time. Josh even does the picking up and dropping off at school. He irons the clothes, the uniform of the kids. It's all equally divided, but in my videos, it's always, like, you know, it's like the stereotype."
The couple also discussed how they teach their kids not to feel entitled, despite their early exposure to the limelight.
"We make sure that they are grateful for the things they are given," said Josh. "That they are not self-centered, so we are trying to educate them to be humble and generous to everyone around them. It's difficult to try to teach a 3-year-old and a 6-year-old to be generous," he added.
Jeraldine noted that it's a work in progress, but their consolation is that both Jette and Nimo are very good kids. "I don't think they realize that it's unique to their situation. I think they probably feel like that's just normal for everyone."
Joshua emphasized giving their kids opportunities for normal experiences, like learning music and playing sports. For them as parents, they continually improve their dynamics every single day. "It's important to show a united front to the kids as parents and make sure that each of you is aware of where you're going or what your idea of parenting is. Communication between parents is key."

Why Filipino parents love the Blackman Family
Before they headed back to Australia, they met their Filipino fans in a meet-and-greet event at the Ayala Malls Market! Market! mall in Taguig, where members of the Smart Parenting Squad took photos with them.
Here are some of the reasons why Filipino parents subscribe to Blackman Family's content:
1. They are authentic and relatable.
For Smart Parenting Dad Joma Vicencio, known to his online followers as Papa Jomsi, the Blackman family's authenticity and relatability drew him in. "From funny vlogs, and short clips of their daily lives, their parenting content resonates with moms and dads worldwide. When I watch their videos, I feel like it's a reflection of my own personal married life and parenting scenarios. This kept me coming back for more," he said.
Seeing them live during the meet-and-greet, Papa Jomsi was reminded of how powerful the internet and social media is, "The venue was jam-packed who were all very happy to see them. It's surprising to see the impact of a normal family who decided to share their lives on the web, and they gained a massive following."

He admires how humble and approachable they were, saying, "Through their example, I've learned the importance of authenticity, consistency, and above all, a reminder that social media can indeed be both fun and genuine."
2. Their content is raw, funny, and informative.
Mommy Epo Sindayen discovered the Blackman Family when she saw their videos on her For You Page on TikTok. "Their video caught my attention, made me laugh, and I instantly followed them!"
As a content creator, Mommy Epo shared a lesson she picked up from the Blackman Family, "There are times that you'll be uninspired in creating content, but being true to yourself and not following the trend will enhance your capabilities to produce much interesting content for your audience."

She added, "The Blackman family taught me to enjoy every moment with my loved ones and to be present for my kids every step of the way."
3. Nimo and Jette's cute conversations
Aside from their contents on marriage and parenting, followers look forward to videos of kids Nimo and Jette conversing with each other. Mommy Geli Tamayo, a self-confessed fan of the Blackman Family, revealed that their videos make her day. "When I started following them, I saw Jette and Nimo right away. Their cute conversations really melted my heart because I love watching kids talk especially since I have my own toddlers too!" she said.
During the meet-and-greet, Mommy Geli and the audience enjoyed surprise performances by Jette and Nimo. Jette sang Barbie Girl by Aqua, while Nimo performed a kid-friendly version of the popular abcdefu song by Gayle.
What Mommy Geli learned from the Blackman Family is how Jeraldine and Josh communicate with their kids, "I love how they converse with them and value how they feel. It’s good to see fellow parents bond with their children and let them know that they are loved. They talk to their kids with respect and tell them everything they know so that the kids will understand. Kids are fast learners and intelligent especially when they ask a lot of questions! I learned to have patience and just enjoy the bond you have with your children."
