Name of Mompreneur: Maita Avinante Nolledo
The Business Idea: Bumblebee and Company designs and creates any-occasion costumes for children. We create ready-to-wear designs and accept made-to-order costumes.
We chose the name Bumblebee because a bumblebee has a big body but small wings, yet it manages to fly. We want to embody this value of being able to do something seemingly impossible. So our limit is only what our customers cannot imagine!
How it all started: A lot of friends complain that it was difficult to find good costumes for their kids. Most costumes flooding the market come from China and are made of inferior materials ill-fitted for our tropical weather. Our costumes are created by women who conceptualize a design with the child’s welfare in mind. Comfort and mobility are top priority while using bright colors that are pleasing to children.
Our costumes may be a bit pricier than the others because a lot of time and effort goes into each detail. Our customers don’t mind because they see the quality in what we make. Although Halloween is our busiest season, we receive a lot of orders all-year round.
Most challenging costume: We had a client who joined an international doll contest. She wanted to look exactly like her doll. It was challenging because there were many details in the doll that had to be replicated in the costume.
Future Plans: Our costumes are available at Rustan’s but will soon be available at Big & Small in the second week of October. We’re also doing costumes for adults now because the parents were clamouring for costumes for themselves! We also do costumes for corporate events. We are planning to make casual-wear costumes that kids can wear everyday for pretend play.
Why she loves being a mom: My children bring joy in my life. They teach me to be patient and understanding.
