In the family drama movie Kun Maupay Man It Panahon, Charo Santos plays a mother named Norma, who gets separated from her son Miguel (Daniel Padilla) after super typhoon Yolanda ravaged the province of Leyte in 2013. Norma then wanders around in search of another loved one, while Miguel is looking for her and his best friend Andrea (Rans Rifol).
Being a mother herself, Charo can closely identify with her character in the directorial debut of Carlo Francisco Manatad and an entry to the 2021 Metro Manila Film Festival.
"I guess, ang unconditional love ko para sa mga anak ko," the actress said in response to SmartParenting.com.ph's question during the movie's virtual presser. "Bilang ina, mahal ko warts and all sa anak ko. Buo and unconditional ’yan. Lahat gagawin mo para sa anak mo."
Charo, who was also ABS-CBN's president from 2008 to 2013, is married to businessman Cesar Concio, and they have two sons: Francis and Martin. In turn, Francis has two daughters, Julia and Talia, and one son, Basti. Meanwhile, Martin became a dad in 2021 with the birth his son Luca.
"I’m not a spoiler," Charo said when asked how she is as a grandmother. "Tama lang. Huwag sobra-sobra."
But she's all out when it comes to expressing her love, pride, appreciation, and longing for her apos, as shown in her Instagram account. She has posts of Julia singing while Talia plays the piano; of Basti getting an award from school; and of Baby Luca laughing at her antics. She then uses the hashtag #happygrandma to express her delight.
As she put it in the caption of one her posts showing all four of her apos, "Such a joy to see my grandchildren together!! #happygrandma."
