Chocophrenia’s Chimverly Ilagan Crafts a Chocoholic’s ParadiseA chocolate obsession turns to a business creating sweet messages and other delicious treats.
The Mompreneur: Chimverlynn B. Ilagan
Her Business: Chocophrenia
The Idea: “Even in college, I really wanted to learn to make homemade chocolates. After graduation, I thought I would start a chocolate business because I’m a chocoholic. I searched the web for materials and chocolate making techniques. I never enrolled or attended store seminars for starting a chocolate business. I spent a lot of time watching different video tutorials about chocolate making. As a BS Psychology graduate, I played with the word Schizophrenia (a mental disorder) and got the name Chocophrenia.”
Why the product is unique: “You can put as many messages or words on the chocolates! I have different designs of chocolates for every occasion (baptismal, wedding, Mother’s day, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, etc.) My price is very affordable compared to others and I do not require minimum orders.”
Why she loves being a mom: “Being a mom is one of the most fulfilling roles of a woman. It made me appreciate little things that my baby could do - crawling, yawning before she goes to sleep and smiling - it takes away all my worries and fear. The day to day moments with my daughter give me a heavenly feeling because I know that I am part of every little thing that she learns. I am learning something new everyday without reading books and going to school! I love being a mom because it made me selfless. I cannot afford a P200.00 blouse for myself but I can afford to buy expensive bottles for my daughter!”
On her inspiration: “I always have the support of my family! When I’m busy at work and need to rush orders my mom will make the orders for me. I just call her and tell her what the client wants. Then my dad will deliver the orders to the client. My hubby also helps with packaging the chocolates by tying the ribbons and wrapping.”
On balancing work with family life: “Since I have a full-time job and have a business at the same time, I always make sure that weekends are our bonding time.”
Advice for aspiring mompreneurs: “Do not forget to have fun and make sure that you love what you are doing. Keep in mind that when you get into business, it is not just the money you earn that matters but how you make your customer happy and satisfied.”
