  • Parents from Salado, Texas, honored their son, who has Down syndrome, in the sweetest way when they got “chromosome” tattoos on February 10.

Chip and Laura Franks got the matching ink for their young son Alec. Photos tweeted by their daughter Mandy show the tattooist in action, and have since gone viral.

She wrote in a follow-up tweet that she and her family are aware the tattoo isn’t an accurate representation of the 21st chromosome, associated with Down syndrome, and that the ink is merely a symbol of their love of their son.

"First, I’d like to say that yes, I know this isn’t an accurate representation of the 21st chromosome that’s involved with DS. This is what most people recognize as a chromosome, and it’s made to be a symbol of love for my brother," she said in her tweet.

The images had over 80,000 likes at the time of writing.
