This book is one of Tahanan's newest releases. It tells the story of Sophia, a little girl who is afraid of the ghosts and other scary creatures that she thinks may be living in their house. Luckily, her grandfather tries to calm her down by telling her what she should do in case she encounters the different Filipino mythological creatures, namely the tikbalang, the tiyanak, the aswang, the kapre, the manananggal, the multo, the siyokoy, the tiktik, the bungisngis, and the nuno sa punso. He does this through a series of rhymes, and makes the creatures appear to be non-scary and fun to be with.

Luis and the Enchanted Creatures

Si Ching na Takot sa Dilim

This book is about Ching, a little boy who is afraid of the dark — partly because his cousin keeps scaring him. Ching is especially afraid of going out at night. He thinks that monsters and other scary things come out once it becomes dark. Because of a major blackout in the neighborhood, he is forced to face his fears and eventually discovers that being in the dark isn't such a scary thing after all. The book garnered the 2000 Gintong Aklat Award for Best Children's Book.

Ang Tikbalang Kung Kabilugan ng Buwan

This book depicts the mythological tikbalang in a different light — as a creature who is not so scary but is in search of friends to play with, much like most children. He attempts to play with other mythical creatures like the kapre and the tiyanak but is unsuccessful in making friends with them. The story shows that, just like us people, the tikbalang can become lonely and sad when he has no one to be with.

She is a bit scared of her neighbor until something happens to the old woman, which causes her to be embarrassed and made fun of by other people. The little girl realizes that her neighbor isn’t someone to be feared after all. She sees her neighbor for who she truly is — a lonely old woman who just needs kindness and compassion. The book was awarded the 1995 PBBY-Salanga Writer's Prize and the 1995 PBBY-Alcala Illustrator's Prize.
