Dealing With Socks And Topak–This TikTok Thread Is Filled With Practical And Heartwarming Advice From Parents

Do you have your own parenting tips? Share it and end gatekeeping.

TikTok might have its share of bad content and eyebrow raising moments – just like any social media platform, but we can’t deny that it also has its share of good and heartwarming content and creators. Some of whom have been featured in Smart Parenting, including Father TikTok who gives unique sermons, this Father-Daughter dancing duo, and this Doctor Mom who shares helpful advice.

Here’s another one: a comment thread filled with practical yet heartwarming parenting advice from other parents.

Creator themhoffers posted a photo carousel, asking: “What if all us parents commented our favorite parenting hacks/tips so that we can all have the best 2024. No more gatekeeping.”

And TikTok answered. As of writing, the post has 6,000+ comments and 1,500 shares. Some of the tips are practical and simple, yet most are so heartwarming that we want to share them as well with everyone. Here are some of our favorites:

For when you need help dealing with the kiddos:

“When my kids are grumpy [tinotopak], I tell them ‘wait, be still,’ and start pretending to pick something off of them until they ask what I’m doing. When I say, ‘I’m picking the grumpies [topak] off of you!’ they usually start giggling and resets their mood!”

“If a child hugs you, never let go first!”

“Let them wear the princess dress out in public. It’s not worth the fight.”

“Give your child a minimum of 60 uninterrupted minutes of your attention once a day. No phone, no screen, just you and them.”

“Only buy white socks and all the same brand/kind. No more matching socks for hours.”

“If they don’t want to hold your hand, tell them that you are scared to walk alone. They’ll feel responsible and won’t run around.”

“When you want to say no, ask yourself first why you want to say no.”

“Let go of the mess. There will always be dishes, laundry, toys everywhere. Do a little bit when you can and go back to playing. They grow so fast.”

“Routine is great but let them stay up every once in a while, take them to different places, include them in your lifestyle. It makes for a flexible and easy-going kid.”

For when you feel exhausted from motherhood duties:

“When you’re exhausted and they won’t sleep, imagine you’re coming back from the future for one more cuddle with them at this age.”

“Their childhood is your motherhood.”

“When you are up at 3 am with your newborn, just know you are not the only mama up also.”

“They’re not giving you a hard time, they’re having a hard time. Give both of yourselves a little grace.”

“Speak life into them. Talk to them, as if it were little you. Be the parent you needed.”

“When you lose your cool, always say ‘I’m sorry.’”

“Your kids don’t have the capacity to manipulate you. Every emotion is a need. They just need you, mama.”

“You can never be all three things on the same day: fun/spontaneous, organized/productive, resting/laid back. Choose one for the day and embrace it.”

“Get in the pictures with them more. They don’t care what you look like, just that you’re with them.”

“When you have a rough morning, do a ‘rewind.’ Lay back in bed and pretend to wake up again. My kids love this. Fresh start.”

“Do it, even if they won’t remember, you will and you deserve the memories just as much.”

“Hug them everyday and say ‘I’ll miss this version of you.’”

“Compliment your child every single day. Not just in passing. Grab their face and praise them for being them at least once a day.”

“If you feel like your world is falling apart, just look at their tiny hands.”

“You don’t have to love every moment of parenthood to be a great parent.”

“You are learning how to be a parent at the same time they’re learning how to be a human. Be patient with yourself and them.”

“When you feel like they just play/act up for you, remember they only do this because you are their safe space, you’re their world and they love you.”

“Hold them. Hold them as much as you can. It goes fast.”

Truly, we are all in the trenches of parenthood together. So stay strong and do good, because it will all be worth it in the end.
