LOOK: Photo of What 'Milk Ducts' Look Like Underneath the Skin Goes Viral

Social media is a lot of things, but when used right, you get the knowledge you didn't know you needed like a photo of milk ducts that has been going viral on Twitter.

Believe it or not, the stock photo above is an illustration of a woman's milk ducts, and yes, doesn't it look familiar? It looks like a chrysanthemum flower! But this isn't the photo that went viral.

Twitter user "Artist formerly known as Byeonce," who uses the handle @lemonadead, shared a photo of the female anatomy, zeroing in on the woman's breasts on Twitter. Depending on your scale of what you find jarring, the photo she shared looked like a female body's skin was peeled off to show the muscles underneath.

"I just realized I never saw a photo of a female muscle system. This is NOT what I imagined milk ducts to look like," she said. "How are some of you finding this beautiful? I’m legit STRESSED knowing this is inside my titties," she wrote in a follow-up tweet.

The photo has been retweeted about 45,500 times and had racked up nearly 138,000 likes. It elicited both negative and positive reactions. Some shared less-shocking images (even a video from the "Essentials Anatomy" app) to illustrate the anatomy of the breast clearly.

At one point or the other, y'all have felt lobe-like structures pressing or holding breasts. So here you go!

Many saw it as beautiful "flowers" or as proof that "that women literally bloom." Even female health professionals admitted it's the first time they've seen it, and they couldn't believe it. Breastfeeding moms, in particular, seem to have gained a deeper understanding of their breast and the challenges of breastfeeding upon seeing the photo.

"As a breastfeeding mama, this is SO incredible to me. It all makes sense now and it’s beautiful!" one tweet reply read. "Lots of things about swollen ducts, lumps, and the way the milk comes out as it is expressed make sense with the visual," another replied.

If we want to be anatomically correct about it, here's a detailed explanation of our breasts' structure, according to the U.S. National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. Each breast has 12 to 20 petal-like structures called lobes, arranged like radially around the nipple. Each lobe contains smaller sections, called lobules, which contain alveoli cells that produce milk. They're all linked together through thin tubes called ducts where breast milk travels from the lobules to the lobes and the nipple during breastfeeding.

The rest of the breast is made of fatty cells called adipose tissue, and within those is a network of ligaments, fibrous connective tissue, nerves, lymph vessels, lymph nodes, and blood vessels.
