As a new breastfeeding mom in 2018, I remember having only a few breast pumps to choose from. Back then, many moms were either breastfeeding directly or learning traditional hand expression. Years later, moms' needs have evolved as a new generation navigates breastfeeding alongside work, careers, businesses, and family life.

That may be one reason we’re seeing more communities for pumping mothers, such as Pumping Inays, Pumping Moms PH, Milkmates PH, the VT Momma Club, and more.

Before buying a breast pump, ask yourself: What type of pump fits my lifestyle? Do you need an electric, portable, wearable, or manual breast pump?

A traditional electric pump may work well if you pump frequently and have a dedicated pumping space. A portable electric pump offers more flexibility for moms who pump frequently but want something easier to move around with. Wearable pumps are ideal for busy, working, or multitasking moms who want to pump hands-free. Lastly, a manual pump can be useful if you pump occasionally, want to travel light, or simply need a backup.

With so many breast pump brands emerging in the local market, choosing one can feek overwhelming. That’s why we asked pumping moms about some of the breast pumps they use and recommend.

Spectra S1 Pro Hospital Grade Double Electric Breast Pump

For Mommy Kathleen Alcantara,  a mom of two, the Spectra S1 stands out because of its flange design, comfort, and adjustable suction.

She shared: "Mas nag-work talaga sa akin yung Spectra S1, especially dahil trumpet/flange siya. Mas comfortable siya for me kasi hindi naiipit or nacocompress yung breasts ko habang nagpu-pump, kaya mas okay yung milk expression ko. Maganda rin yung suction niya. Strong enough para sa akin pero adjustable pa rin depende sa comfort level. Feeling ko malaking factor yung fit ng flange, kasi kapag comfortable ka at tama yung fit, mas smooth din yung pumping experience at mas nakaka-express ako ng milk."

Her experience also highlights something worth considering when choosing a breast pump: finding the right flange fit can make a difference in comfort and the overall pumping experience.

Choosing the Right Breast Pump for You

Having so many breast pump brands on the market today can feel overwhelming. But don't feel pressured to buy something simply because it’s the trendiest, most recommended, or most talked-about pump online.

Choose a breast pump based on your budget, pumping habits, comfort, and lifestyle needs. Recommendations from fellow moms can be incredibly helpful, but remember that every mom’s pumping experience—and every body—is different.

As more moms return to work, build businesses, travel, and balance breastfeeding with everyday life, it's encouraging to see more pumping options becoming available. What matters most is finding a breast pump that helps make your breastfeeding and pumping journey a little more manageable.

And as moms share what works—and what doesn’t—we can continue building a helpful community for breastfeeding and pumping mothers navigating this season together.

From breastfeeding to starting solids, the average mom spends over 91 full days feeding their baby over the course of a year.
