'Part-Time Human, Full-Time Baby Buffet,' Moms React To Coleen Garcia's Breastfeeding Photo

Padede moms can relate when host and mom Coleen Garcia posted a photo of her breastfeeding Amari, as they chill in Amanpulo.

She added the caption, 'Part-time human, full-time baby buffet' and added an emoji of a cow, to which netizens, especially moms, dropped hearts and left positive comments.

"Proud breastfeeding mom," and "Same, Coleen, same," were among the comments made by moms on her IG post.

One mom said, Coleen is a 'role model,' and one remarked that, 'padede is a full-time job!'

In addition to being a baby buffet, one mom said breastfeeding moms are also, 'human pacifier.'

One of her followers commented, "Awat na baby, ang laki-laki mo na!"

Amari is turning two in September, and we don't know if Coleen will still breastfeed him beyond that.

Breastfeeding is something Coleen planned to do ever since she got pregnant. In a previous Smart Parenting article, Coleen highlighted the importance of eating healthy to breastfeeding moms.

"Kailangan talaga kumakain. Kasi breastmilk stays the same, nutritious talaga no matter what. Pero kapag kulang, kinukuha talaga from my nutrition. So ako 'yung parang nanghihina, ako 'yung nakukulangan sa nutrition," Coleen said.

“Totoo ‘yung sinasabi din nila na your body is no longer yours,” the first-time mom added.

Her husband, Billy Crawford, is also supportive of Coleen's breastfeeding journey. He honored Coleen last year by posting a photo of her feeding Amari in a side-lying position.

Whether Coleen decides to breastfeed beyond 2 years, experts say that it will have benefits for the mom and her child.

Benefits of extended breastfeeding

1. Added nutrition for your child

According to Healthline, the idea that your milk “turns to water” or lacks nutritional value after a certain period is a myth. Studies show that breast milk retains its nutritional quality for the entire duration of breastfeeding. Plus, its composition may change based on the needs of your growing child.

2. Makes smarter kids

IBCLC and pediatrician Dr. Jamie Cumpas cites a research that the greatest increase in cognitive scores is related to children who breastfed the longest.

“In a study of Mortensen in 2009, a significant positive association between duration of breastfeeding and intelligence was observed in 2 independent samples of young adults, assessed with 2 different intelligence tests,” she expounds.

La Leche League Leader Abbie Venida-Yabot, a lactation counselor certified by the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH), meanwhile says that extended breastfeeding also leads to “calmer, more intelligent babies.”

Another study, however, disproves this.

3. Ultimate mom-baby bonding

One of the comments on Coleen's post reads: "I’m telling you that, breastfeeding is the best feeling in the world. I breastfeed my son for 3 years it was the best bond with my son."
