Dear Parent, It's Okay To Have Days Of Joy Mixed With Uncertainty

Give yourself permission to take things one day at a time.

Dear Parent,

Congratulations on your journey to parenthood!

This is an extraordinary time, filled with wonder, and undoubtedly, a few nerves. You are embarking on one of the most transformative experiences life has to offer, and although it may feel overwhelming, remember that each step is uniquely your own. But I also understand that not every woman who saw the two-line markers jumped with joy and exhilaration.

Some were stumped, speechless, drowned in utter disbelief. But trust me, if this is you, it's going to be okay.

Nothing actually prepares you for parenthood.  But if you take deep breath, spare a moment for yourself, and lean on the people around you who care about you deeply, you'll find yourself stronger than you've ever been. (One day, you'll be pushing a baby out of that womb and that in itself is your proof of that inner strength.)

As your body and mind adjust to this new reality, it’s perfectly okay to have days of sheer joy mixed with moments of uncertainty. Pregnancy brings with it an array of changes, not just physically but also emotionally and mentally. It’s all part of preparing you for the incredible task of nurturing a new life.

Know that it’s okay to rest. It's okay to feel sad sometimes.

You might be feeling the weight of decisions about health, lifestyle, or preparing for the arrival of your little one. You’ll likely receive advice from every direction, sometimes welcome and other times unsolicited. Remember to trust yourself and your instincts. By carrying this life inside you, you are already making a great decision. Don’t hesitate to ask for help when you need it, and give yourself permission to take things one day at a time.

Even in moments of doubt, cherish the small, beautiful moments—the first flutter of a kick, the sound of your baby’s heartbeat, the first image of your little one on that black-and-white screen, and the joy of imagining what the two of you will be like. These memories are uniquely yours and will form the foundation of the bond between you and your child.

No matter where you are in this journey, remember that you are already doing an amazing job. Your resilience, love, and dedication will guide you through every highest of highs and lowest of lows.

Embrace this season, for it is special and fleeting. It'll be over before you know it.

Pregnancy? That's the easy part. Parenthood is an entirely different ball game. But worry not, we're all in the same boat and we'll eventually figure things out.

Wishing you peace, joy, and strength in the days to come. I'm rooting for you!
