Every pregnancy journey is unique. And if there's one thing that every pregnant woman needs, it's kindness and understanding. And these two things are not that hard to give. In fact, anyone can be kind, even strangers.
In a recent Smart Parenting Tanong Lang thread on Facebook, we asked moms what the nicest things were that strangers did for them while they were pregnant. From helping them carry their bags, to giving another bag of lanzones, to letting them get away from a holdup, there's a lot we can do to support our pregnant moms.
Moms share the nicest things strangers did for them while pregnant
Eat for two
"Kasama ba sa stranger ung baker sa bakery malapit sa bahay namin? I was pregnant with my bunso that time. Sa tuwing bibili ako ng tinapay (spanish bread, star bread, or pan de coco, yan ang mga fave ko noong buntis ako), palagi niyang NIRE-REHEAT. Feeling ko sobrang special ko na that time." Mommy Dheng Matawaran Campo
"Manong Tindero gave me a kilo of lanzones instead of letting me pay for it. He refused to take my money saying, "Palanggaon nato ang buros (Pregnant women should be loved)." Mommy Jet Baguio-Buntag
"One time, we bought a kilo of ripe fresh mangoes and Ate Vendor added another plastic full of ripe mangoes FOR FREE as additional because as per ate vendor it's for my baby because I'm pregnant." Mommy Lizel Estrella
"Cravings for samgyupsal at 10pm. Pinapasok pa din ng resto kahit closed na kasi mahirap mag-no sa buntis." Mommy Nikkie Arcillas-Soliman
"Disney princess ang peg!"
"Sa LRT, [a] senior citizen gave up his seat for me. I remember also this Chinese person randomly said while assisting me sa stairs na swerte yang anak mo kasi bilog na bilog yang tiyan mo. Nakakatuwa that di pa lumalabas ang bebi, you feel na well loved na siya. Disney Princess ang peg kapag pregnant." Mommy Ellaine Aranda Magandi
"I tripped, then a young man helped me get up." Mommy Maylene Chavez Flores
"Yung guards sa LRT/MRT VIP treatment ka, todo alalay sa pagpasok at baba, then sa jeep umuurong yung mga pasahero para sa mas malapit ka sa pinto at di mahirapan sa pagbaba. Ang dami pa din talagang mababait sa mundo." Mommy Luz Regala Lahip
"Kahapon lang po tatawid sa Divisoria, may isang rider na pinahinto mga sasakyan para padaanin ako. Nakaka-touch." Mommy Abril Rebueno
Share the load
"When I went to the mall, may dala akong parang carpet na binili ko then may nag-approach sa akin na girl, student pa, tinulungan niya ako magbuhat hanggang sa mall exit." Mommy Blessy Galvez Millan
"It was when a young student from DLSU offered to carry my bag of grocery when climbing the stairs up to LRT station. Such a nice gesture from a teenager who had no qualms in helping out a preggy lady. His friends just stared in awe! Whoever you are, your parents raised you well." Mommy Josephine S. De Jesus
The little things
"Gutom na gutom while pregnant, four people let me pass through and be the next in line so I can order a hot meal." Mommy Thea Alberto-Masakayan
"Nicest thing a stranger did [for] me was during my checkup, he bought a bottled water for me because he noticed na I'm so pale na. Bait ni kuya." Mommy Gareth Remias
"Someone picked my veggies nung naglaglagan dahil nabutas yung lagayan. Mommy Ammy Austin
"I went shopping in a department store and was waiting for my hubby at the counter. Maya-maya, may sales lady na lumapit and offered me a chair kahit di ako nagsabi." Mommy Christine Basia-Bartolome
"Asked me if I was pregnant, (tummy was just starting to show) said that I should not be waiting in line for UV, I go in front." Mommy Jazzmine MB
"A stranger picked and returned to me the coins I dropped while I was putting them in my wallet. He was two tables away from me." Heiza Dea Saur David
"Super haba ng pila sa ATM machine, nahihiya naman ako magpa-priority kaya pumila na lang din ako kasi kaya ko naman din. But then may isang lalake na naka-line din nag-insist na ako na ang next in line. Malakas pa talaga boses niya, he said, “Priority si mam, she’s pregnant” Mommy Bea Bethlehem
Big ticket items
"I was seven months preggo and on a business trip to Bangalore, India when an old man offered to exchange his business class seat to mine. Though tempting, I politely refused knowing he's old and he also needs to be comfortable. Mommy Emmie Rose Rubin-Susano
"Someone sent me a postpartum care package that has steak, sides and delicious dessert! I kept the note!" Mommy Rozelisabeth Ramer
'Yung may nakipag away na girl sa elevator ng MRT dahil muntik ako madaganan ng mga nakikipagsiksikan na pasahero. Sobrang naappreciate ko si ate dahil talagang inilaban niya ako at nagalit doon sa pasahero. Sumisigaw pa siya sa loob ng elevator na walang pakealam kung aawayin din ba siya ng pasahero o pakikinggan. Tapos humarang siya sa harapan ko para di ako matamaan. Sobrang thankful ko talaga sa kanya that time." Mommy Sahara Krista
"On my way to work, graveyard shift. Six months preggy. May humarang sa kanto, holdap daw. Di nia tinuloy kasi sabi nga kasama nia, magkapitbahay daw kami." Mommy Abi Burn
Everyday heroes
Back in 2018, si Kuya Dispatcher sa Market! Market! always gives me the priority seat once makita akong approaching the pila sa PUV. Not everyone is kind enough to do that." Mommy Genevieve Ligayo
"Yung traffic enforcer sa amin. Pag nakikita niya ako pinapauna niya ako pasakayin kasi kailangan mo makipag-unahan during rush hour. Sadly, he passed away na. I found out na known talaga siya sa mga tao dahil mabait talaga siya." Mommy Chyl Chyl
"Yung lagi kang ihing-ihi tapos pinapauna ka, pero unforgettable yung pinauna ako ng senior citizen." Mommy Winay Mercado
"Yung tricycle driver na binagalan yung takbo niya tapos todo iwas sa lubak para di mayugyog si baby." Mommy Lea Joanna
