38-Weeks-Pregnant Anne Curtis Gets Ready For D-Day, Puts Together A Birthing PlaylistShe wants the songs to be personal and meaningful, as they should beby Lei Dimarucut-Sison .
One way or another, we are all lovers of music, for the simple reason that it is an expression of how we're feeling at the moment. In love? Heartbroken? Frustrated? Inspired? There's always a song that puts into words and melody what we can't (or shouldn't) say.
If that is the case, there's no reason there can't be a soundtrack for when you're having a baby, too. Well, in fact, there is.
In 2016, popular music streaming app Spotify released a "birthing playlist" — a collection of songs "scientifically-designed to help calm down a woman in labor. It was compiled with the help of Dr. Jacques Moritz, a professor of obstetrics and gynecology in New York, who says that 70% of his patients actually make their own playlists for the big day.

In the Philippines, one of the celebrities who is busy creating a birthing playlist is first-timer Anne Curtis, who, at 38 weeks pregnant, is very near her delivery date. (Click here to see photos from her maternity shoot to mark her 35th birthday.)
On Instagram Stories, Anne shared some of the songs she selected for her birthing playlist, such as "The Light" by The Album Leaf, a calming instrumental, and the upbeat "Sweet Disposition" by The Temper Trap.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW

Anne is also including some songs that are personally meaningful to her. "Our Song" by The xx which has the lyrics "All I have, I will give to you, In dark times when no one wants to, I will give you me, And we'll be," made her write "Naiiyak ako," while "Adore" by Amy Shark is special because it was one of her husband Erwan Heussaff's engagement songs for her.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOWADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
"Hopefully this will help when labor comes upon me," she captioned the album cover, along with a "face with tears of joy" emoticon.
Spotify USA's birthing playlist or push playlist includes some very apt songs such as "Just Breathe" by Pearl Jam, "Let It Go" by James Bay, "Don't Panic" by Coldplay, and "Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)" by John Lennon.
There are also a number of other birthing playlists you will find in the app, and of course you can also create your own as Anne did.
Dr. Moritz recommends putting together a playlist that will last from 5 to 10 hours. “A good playlist helps distract mothers from these sounds and better manage fear and pain,” he says. He also suggests putting the songs in sequence so that the "slow and mellow" ones in the beginning can help you relax, and the upbeat tunes can motivate you to push later on.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
