'Choosing The Right Swimsuit Color Can Save Your Child’s Life,' A Mom Shares

The spirit of "Sharing is Caring" is very much alive in the Smart Parenting Village. 

 A mom recently shared an informative poster that shows what swimsuit colors look like when underwater.

Mommy Saskia Velasco posted the photo from Alive Solutions, aquatic safety experts from California, USA, with this caption:

"Hi Mommies! Pag pumipili ng swimsuit or rash guard for our kids be sure to consider the color:

• Blue or green shades are hard to see pag nasa water na
• Bright neon colors best and pinakamadali makita pag nasa water
• Bright neon color madali din makita sa crowd incase mahiwalay siya sa inyo

Parents, on the comment section expressed their gratitude to Mommy Sas. They also tagged their husbands and other parents who need to see the information.

Smart Parenting reached out to Mommy Sas, who posted it originally on her Facebook page.

A mom of a 9-month-old from Angono, Rizal, Mommy Sas said, what inspired her to share it to the group was her own experience. “I was 20 years old na when I learned to swim and all my childhood life, lagi kami may summer outing kaso I didn't enjoy swimming kasi I was afraid of drowning.

"I once witnessed one of my playmates drown (luckily, he was saved). That's why I decided when I have a kid, I want him/her to be equipped with everything to ensure that he will be safe whenever we go on outings."

She adds, she became aware of swimming lessons but nobody ever told her about the appropriate color of swimwear and how vital it could be for our safety.

“Kaya when I found out about it and did my research I realized na it's information that’s not well known pero if more people learn about it, we could  save more kids from drowning.”

Mommy Sas also gave tips to other moms, who are planning to bring their kids to the beach soon.

“If your child still wears diapers, be sure to buy them swim diapers because they don't get too heavy unlike regular diapers which can drag your kid down because of the weight.”

“It’s better to use rashguard or swimwear with long sleeves to protect the skin from UV rays, abrasions from corals or rocks, as well as jellyfish stings,” she adds.
