  • If you love makeup, we’re sure that at some point you’ve struggled with finding the perfect foundation shade and concealing blemishes to try and achieve flawless skin. Not to say that it can’t be done, but you will definitely need to make an effort. If only there were magical tools that can do all these without the struggle, right?

    Beauty tech for the face

There now exists two kinds of gadgets that can help restore the natural-looking beauty of your skin. The first is the Opté Precision Skincare System, a handheld device invented by Procter & Gamble that acts as a thermal inkjet printer and applies tiny dots of makeup on your skin to cover and reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation. Think of it as precise coverage for an effortless and flawless finish.

Here’s how it works: the wand scans your face with a tiny camera at 200 frames per second and detects darkness like sunspots, freckles, or moles. The blue LED scanning lights enhance the contrast of your skin, so the camera can see three more pigmentations than the human eye — that means the device can detect spots even you can’t see.

Then, the wand applies makeup (called Opté Precision Serum) from a cartridge using 120 thermal inkjet nozzles to cover each spot or blemish. It’s so precise that it will only deposit the exact amount of makeup needed to conceal the spots and those who have tried it report that it feels lightweight and invisible on the skin, as well.

According to reports, the serum offers UV-protection and moisturizing properties and comes in three shades: light, medium, and dark. There’s no word yet on how much it’s going to cost (and if it’s even going to be available in the Philippines), but it may be available in the market in early 2020.

If it sounds too good to be true, you can watch the wand in action below and prepare to be amazed.

A magic mirror that prints makeup

Another company is utilizing nanotechnology to print out “makeup sheets” that you apply to your face to cover up any imperfections. Panasonic Corporation in Japan is developing the Snow Beauty Mirror, a computerized mirror that uses a camera and sensors to scan a person’s face and find dark spots, wrinkles, and large pores.

After scanning, the mirror will offer beauty advice (just like the enchanted mirror in Snow White!) and then print out an ultrathin, 100-nanometer makeup-coated patch that is customized for the user.

According to the Japan Times, the sheet is made of materials often used for surgery, so it is safe to apply directly onto the face. Once it adheres to the skin, it is barely noticeable and won’t fall off unless directly sprayed with water.

Sachiko Kawaguchi, who oversees product development, says the mirror uses organic light-emitting diodes (OLED) to create the patch. The printer that is connected to the mirror uses the data from the OLED scan to print out makeup ink that is made from materials similar to a foundation.

The company is gearing up for a 2020 release and hopes that the mirror will become a tool that allows users to download their favorite makeup looks from a database and then apply them easily.
