In this day of technology and social media, it's nice to be reminded of some Filipino traditions that show genuine intentions and love between a man and a woman. That's what Yasmien Kurdi and her daughter Ayesha recreated for Buwan ng Wika!

In an Instagram post, the actress and her daughter, wearing matching baro't sayas, sat by their porch to recreate the Filipino tradition of harana. The father of the house, Rey Soldevilla, serenaded them wearing a camisa de chino, with a guitar to match!

What is a harana?

A harana is a traditional form of Filipino courtship where a person sings a romantic song outside the home of the person they love, hoping to catch that person's attention and have them come out of their window or house. Sometimes done solo, a harana can also have a whole barkada or band behind them!

Yasmien captioned her post, “May bisita po kami huma-hara-harana sa labas... umaakyat ng ligaw… hihi… sasagutin kaya namin? Maligayang #BuwanNgWika” So adorable!

Buwan ng Wika is celebrated every year when August rolls around, and it's the perfect time to introduce and expose your kids to all things Filipino. Customs and traditions like harana, or serenading the one you love, are not as mainstream or trendy as they once used to be, but the way to keep the tradition alive is to pass them on to the next generation.

If you ask us, Yasmien and Rey are doing an excellent job getting Ayeesha interested in Filipino culture. And who knows, she might grow up expecting the same effort and courage that it takes to do a harana from her own “manliligaw” in the future!
