If you’re looking for a family experience that’s filled with sensory activities, physical activity, and games, then add Gootopia to the list of family outings. Smart Parenting takes a first look at Manila’s newest Indoor Slime Playground in this SPerience with Ronna Capili Bonifacio, Parenting Editor, her husband Bojo, and their three kids Vera, Mateo, and Sandro. It’s indoors and filled with different activities everyone can do. While recommended for children ages 5 and up, the playground can easily suit the family.
What’s with slime?
Slime is amazingly popular with kids. There are so many different kinds of slime, and entire YouTube channels dedicated to slime-making, collecting slime, and even slime ASMR. The playground makes room for this by providing dedicated spaces for influencers and slime enthusiasts who want to experience all the goo.
Gootopia features not just slime and slime-making but ups the ante with different challenges that parents and kids can do together. Choose to team or challenge each other with a variety of different activities like the Slime Tower Challenge, where your physical prowess will be put to the test. Other activities include Balloon Blaster, the Human Bowling Ball Challenge, and the laser-tag-like Slime Spy.
"It’s so 90s, it’s like Squid Game, minus the dying part."
Ronna loved the matrix-like feel of the slime spy challenge where you have to avoid the lazers and really get down on the ground and play. “You really feel like a spy,” Ronna says, explaining that it wasn’t as easy as it looked. But the activities were all a hit with the kids, especially the Human Bowling Ball Challenge.
Interactive, sensory activities are great for your children’s development and give them a safe space to move and play. The playground’s activities like Goo Catcher and Goonado also help develop hand-eye coordination for younger kids, as well as instructions. Not that they know that they’re learning -- it’s all disguised in the name of fun.
The best part, of course, is that once you earn points and finish the course, you can get slimed! Don't worry, the kids are wrapped in protective gear and you can go ahead and personalize your own slime after you finish the course.
The rating: A challenging, fun experience for the entire family
If you’re a 90s kid who always wanted to be part of Nickelodeon’s Double Dare and get glooped by the iconic green slime, this is a family day you can’t afford to miss. “It feels like Takeshi’s Castle meets Crystal meets Figure It Out. It’s so 90s, it’s like Squid Game, minus the dying part,” Ronna says. “There are so many things you can do to get active with your kids.”
“This was made for the kids, pero as you can see even the adults can enjoy it,” Nikko Que, President of Gootopia, says. “It’s the first one here in the Philippines, it’s very interactive, it’s all about slime!” The playground is full of different attractions -- one visit might not be enough. Gootopia offers all sorts of party packages for your next event or even a cool date night.
