Nakakamiss! SM Ice Skating Rink Is Now Open At SM Megamall!

Attention, skaters! The ice skating rink in SM Megamall is now open!

If you've been looking for activities to do with your family this week or this summer, then you should know by now that everyone's favorite chill place is back!

SM Skating announced on its Facebook page on Sunday that they are getting ready to meet skaters young and old alike on the ice again. 

The ice skating rink is located on the 5th level of the Mega Fashion Hall of SM Megamall.

Starting April 11, ice skating in SM Megamall is open every day to fully vaccinated persons, from ages 12 years old and above. From April 11-13, the branch is open from 12NN to 9PM.  

They also posted their rates that frequent skaters might have forgotten after two years of being closed. 

A 2-hour Pass costs P330, while an Afternoon Pass (unlimited pass) costs P499.

Those who need to leave their belongings may avail a day use of Locker rental at P50. 

If your child is trying out skating for the first time, you may rent out Polar Bear that they can push around. Rental is at P100 per hour. 

Face masks and physical distancing are still required and vaccination cards will be checked upon entry. 

The ice skating rink in SM Mall of Asia has been opened since January. Meanwhile, people are waiting for the reopening of SM Skating in SM Seaside Cebu and SM Southmall.

SM Skating announced on March 2020 that they will be closing their ice skating rinks amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to moms, here's what you need to know before you enroll your child to this hobby.

1. It's going to be an investment.

A mom of an ice skater says, prepare to shed some cash because ice rink passes would cost you from P160-P450 per day, depending on your location. 

"When you’re learning to skate, you need to enroll with accredited coaches in the rink of your choice. Learn-to-skate classes are usually paid in a series. The cost varies depending on your child’s skating level. We had started with Php2,700 for six 30-minute lessons. We now spend Php4,200 for four 30-minute lessons," said Aneth Ng-Lim.

On top of that, if you want to buy skating shoes for your child, it would cost you around P11,000-P15-000.

2. It's a learning experience.

A professional in-line skater mom said that skating taught her to be strong as a child. Nevertheless, it teaches an important lesson on perseverance. “Everyone gets to fall, and you just have to get back up. So after school, I would skate outside our village, I would practice everyday to acquire the skill,” said Yams Verzosa, founder of Eastsider Skaters. 

3. It would take your support and commitment.

Just like any other hobby, it would require the parents' support for a child to excel in it. “I know ice skating is very expensive, it’s hard din po, but if this is your passion and you also want to join something like Disney On Ice, you’ll never know,” said Jules Alpe, a 2017 SEA Games ice skater.

“Noong nakita po nila [parents] ang potential ko, inencourage po nila akong ituloy ang ice skating,” Jules said.
