After almost 2 years of being stuck indoors, kids in Metro Manila are finally allowed to go outside as lockdown restrictions have eased to Alert Level 2. (Read what is allowed under the alert level here.)
Outdoor spots in Metro Manila
Parents and their children are surely looking forward to finally step out the confines of their homes. While malls are already open, experts will tell you that open areas are ideal. If you're looking where to go around the metro, here's a list of places your kids will surely love!
If you do decide to bring your kids to these places, remember to take precautions as the threat of COVID-19 still persists. Make sure to follow all the basic health protocols such as wearing masks, physical distancing, and washing or sanitizing your hands.
Expect that there will be a lot of people outside with their kids as well so it's best to go on weekdays to avoid the crowd. "Kapag nakita natin na parang crowded na ang lugar, huwag na nating isama ang ating kabataan," reminds Department of Health undersecretary Rosario Vergeire.
Quezon City Memorial Circle
Even before Alert Level 2 was announced, this spot was already considered a child-friendly safe zone in Quezon City, along with nearby parks like the Ninoy Aquino Parks & Wildlife Center, La Mesa Ecopark and People's Park.
Check out the Circle of Joy, which is a free, open-air playground with colorful play structures of slides, tunnels, monkey bars, and seesaws. Check out our guide of Quezon City Memorial Circle here.
La Mesa Eco Park
This huge stretch of green is blessed with tall trees where kids can enjoy activities like fishing, biking, archery, bird-watching, and more.
They are only open from 6 a.m. to 12nn daily, so plan your visit beforehand. A minimum donation of P40 per head is required. Walk-ins will be accepted, but will follow a list of 500 guests at any given time.

While you’re already exploring Manila, you and your kids can also pay a visit to Luneta Park. The 58-hectare historical park is home to the 42 feet monument of the Philippines’ National Hero Jose Rizal, a 3D Relief Map of the Philippines, and the National Museum of the Philippines.
SM Mall of Asia By the Bay
When Alert Level 2 was announced, By The Bay became an instant go-to for families. Apart from being able to dine in restaurants al fresco, kids can enjoy different kids of rides like the ferris wheel, playing games where they can win big stuffed toys, and riding their bikes along the seaside.
Kiddie Wheely Park
Last but not the least is the Kiddie Wheely Park at Bonifacio Global City. What better way to get our kids’ bodies up and moving than by taking them to an outdoor spot where they can safely bike all they want?
The biking spots are located at the De Jesus Oval, which is open to children daily. The second location is at 31st St., which is only open to bikers during weekends.
While you're there, you can also check out the 9 other parks at BGC. Safety protocols are strictly implemented in any of the open parks in BGC. Make sure to bring your own bikes and scooters!
