  • Living in Japan definitely has its perks — it is safe, child-friendly, and the government does its parts to make sure its citizens and residents are well-taken care of. Many have also said that Japanese cuisine is one of the best in the world — and it looks like they don’t scrimp on the quality, serving, and presentation, whether it’s in a restaurant, convenience store, school lunches or hospital food!

What hospital food in Japan is like

In our Facebook group, Smart Parenting Village, Angel Aihara, a stay-at-home mom of two who lives in Japan, and who blogs at Mama Gel,  documented the food that was served to her while she was confined in the hospital after giving birth to her second child, Kotarou. She also offered a glimpse of what it’s like to give birth in the country.

May ilang ospital namang apat na araw lang,” Angel explains in her post.

Angel, who underwent C-section shares in March 2018, shares her first meal the morning after.

This meal is called “Okayu.”
