You've probably seen one of her cooking videos on your Facebook feed or TikTok's 'For You' page. At 48, Mommy Grace Tanfelix is making her own name, no longer just standing in the shadows of her son, Kapuso young actor Miguel Tanfelix. Proof that she is the woman of the hour? Back-to-back interviews with no less than Boy Abunda and Karen Davila, plus brand endorsements and appearances in primetime television series—an achievement netizens would describe these days as "bigla kang sumakses." But how did it all start?
The making of an online superstar: Mommy Grace Tanfelix
Mommy Grace describes herself as a "plain housewife" and mother of two who cooks daily for her family. She was a former preschool teacher who gave up her career when her son entered showbiz. Miguel had expressed his desire to become an actor at age five, and Grace felt that her role as a mother was to support her child.
"Mahirap po sa part ko yun dahil buntis din ako noong time na yun. Siyempre, wala pa kaming sasakyan noon, nagko-commute. Kailangan tayong mga nanay, suportahan natin yung ating mga anak," she told Karen in her vlog posted on March 27.
Miguel joined the reality talent competition StarStruck Kids in 2004, finishing as a runner-up with the title of First Prince. Since then, he has starred in various TV series and films, including Mulawin (2004), Niño (2014), and Voltes V Legacy (2023). He plays the lead role of Kidlat in the GMA7 action drama series Mga Batang Riles. Who would've thought that after 26 years, it would be Mommy Grace's turn to shine?
Miguel and his Mommy Grace
Grace started creating dance vlogs with her son during the COVID-19 pandemic. She would wait for him to wake up so he could appear in her videos, increasing their chances of going viral. But it was Miguel who encouraged her to start her own cooking vlog, which soon became a hit, closing each video with her now-iconic catchphrase, "Okay na 'to!"

As of this writing, she has amassed nearly four million followers across Facebook and TikTok, with her TikTok videos alone garnering over 14 million likes.
While some critics claim that Mommy Grace is simply riding on her son's fame, Miguel believes her success is well deserved. He also has no issue with his mother being in the public eye as a content creator.
"Noong una may hesitations kasi gusto ko hiwalay palagi yung career sa personal life. Pero kung yun naman yung nagpapasaya kay Mommy, and nakakatulong din sa career niya, then why not?" Miguel said.
Her followers may soon get a taste of Mommy Grace's cooking. She plans to sell her famous leche flan and beef caldereta, Miguel's personal favorites. She also hopes to have a restaurant someday that offers classic Filipino dishes and her original recipes. What's the restaurant's name? "Okay na 'to!" she tells Karen.
Mommy Grace reveals she once dreamed of becoming an actress, inspired by Ang TV, a popular youth-oriented variety show in the `90s. Who knew that more than 20 years later, Boy Abunda would ask her if she was open to turning her life story into a movie, to which she answered, "Why not?"
From stage mother to having a stage son
One of the most inspiring things about Mommy Grace is how highly she speaks of her children. In interviews, she always expresses her pride in Miguel for being responsible and kind. She is also mindful of never sharing details that could embarrass him. When asked whether she would be okay with Miguel getting married soon, she said it's up to him.
Despite the demands of showbiz, Mommy Grace and Miguel have maintained a close relationship. What we can learn from her is that spending quality time together is key, even as simple as sharing a meal or making fun content. Their viral dance and cooking videos are not just for entertainment but also a way for them to bond.
"Gawin mo sa iyong kapwa ang nais mong gawin nila sa iyo. Kung ano yung ginawa mo, yun yung babalik sa iyo. So if you do good, ang babalik sa iyo, puro kabutihan." —Mommy Grace Tanfelix
Like many moms, Mommy Grace isn't spared from parenting challenges—balancing her son's budding career with raising her other child, dealing with financial struggles in the early days, and ensuring Miguel remained grounded despite his fame.
She emphasized the importance of making children feel valued, teaching them that both career and family matter, and always being there to support them.
"Bilang anak, palagi ko pong sinasabi na very responsible po talaga si Miguel simula noong bata hanggang ngayon po. Todo support siya sa amin and hindi nawawala yung respect niya sa amin ng Daddy niya. Respectful, and I think napalaki ko naman po siya ng maayos. Sobrang proud kami kay Miguel," she tells Karen.
Cooking as a love language
For Mommy Grace, cooking is more than just preparing food—it expresses love. In turn, Miguel never runs out of love for his mother. Karen asked what the most touching act of love she received from her son was. She said it was how Miguel supported her when it was finally her time to shine.
Indeed, Mommy Grace has come a long way and is reaping the fruits of her labor. The son she nurtured with love and dedication now showers her with the same love and support.
During the interview, she told Miguel, "Maraming, maraming salamat na very responsible ka talaga na anak. 'Yun talaga yung pinagmamalaki ko. At talagang, hindi dahil sa nanay ako ni Miguel, mabait talaga ito. Sobrang mabait."
Mommy Grace Tanfelix: Be kind, do good
If there's one verse that Mommy Grace lives by, it's about kindness and doing good. She told Karen, "Maging mabuti lang tayo sa kapwa, and give back. Share your blessings." So if you do good, ang babalik sa iyo, puro kabutihan."
Mommy Grace's journey from working behind the scenes to stepping into her spotlight proves that parenthood doesn’t diminish a person's potential—it simply reshapes the timeline of their dreams. Parents can still achieve their aspirations, even if it happens later in life. Remember, your dreams may be delayed, but they are not denied. The love, effort, and sacrifices of mothers are never in vain; mothers are cultivated, nurtured, and ultimately rewarded at the right time.
As she continues to share her passion for cooking and family, one thing is clear—her kindness, humility, and unwavering love will always be the secret ingredients to her success.
