Caught On Cam! Watch This Proud Son's Reaction When He Found Out His Mom Passed The Bar

A video posted by Samiel Ibnohajil Villanueva last April 14 is now making rounds on social media because of his emotional reaction when he learned that his mother 44-year-old mother Mary Ann Ibnohajil Villanueva passed the 2022 Bar examinations.

The 20-year-old student from Alaminos, Laguna told Smart Parenting the story behind the viral video footage. 

"Me and my dog Mochi were waiting for the [bar exam] results. Sobra po akong kinakabahan that time, like sobrang bilis po tibok ng puso ko nun, then when I [saw] my mom's name on the screen, naghalo-halo na emotions ko sa sobrang saya."

"My kuya [was] sleeping that time galing night shift, and the reason why I [went] upstairs was to inform him na nakapasa si mommy, and sobrang saya din nya to the point na napabangon agad siya to call and congratulate my mother," he said in an interview via Messenger.

His mom's responded to his reaction video, saying, "Salamat kuya Samiel. [A]ng lutong nman ng PI ay, kinilabutan ako. [M]ag aral ng mabuti ha at wag kakalimutan ang usapan natin. [M]ahal na mahal ko kayo."

His mom's bar journey

Smart Parenting asked Samiel what made him share his reaction video online, "I shared the video because I'm really proud of how my mom and our whole family was able to surpass everything so that my mom could fulfill her dream (and my grandpa’s dream) of becoming a lawyer."

"I saw how hard it was for her to work, study in law school and take care of the family, all at the same time."

Samiel shared that his mom's bar journey was not easy. His mom used to work in a bank but she resigned last year to finally focus on her bar exam review. "My mom was supposed to take the 2020-2021 bar exams, but she took care of her mom (my grandma) when she was hospitalized due to COVID. And when she finally decided to take the 2022 bar exam, she really struggled to focus on her review while trying her best to take care of us and help us with our school work."

He added, "My mom had a full-time job, handling at least 8 people, then law school naman after ng work. She’s also a hands-on mom. She cooks for us, she's also our tutor, takes care of us, wala kaming maid. She’s also a loving wife pa."

In His perfect time

"I saw how hard it was for her to work, study in law school and take care of the family, all at the same time. That's why I was really ecstatic when I saw her name on the TV screen because she passed the bar exam," Samiel told Smart Parenting. 

"This was also her long time dream and a promise she made to my grandpa, who was also a lawyer and a judge who died 28 years ago. My dad and my mom got married kasi at a young age. Dream ng grandpa ko na maging lawyer si mommy, kaya sobrang daming trials and challenges before my mom was able to finish her studies, then eventually work and to finally study and finish law school."

Inspired by his mom's journey, Samiel had this to share to other parents whose dreams remain unfulfilled.

"Parents, it's never too late to pursue your dreams. Anything is possible when you put your heart into it. All you need is hard work, perseverance, and faith in God that He will give it to you in His perfect time."
