Regine Velasquez On Dealing With In-Laws: Ang Importante Kayong Mag-asawaby Rachel Perez .
No family is perfect. That's one takeaway the Asia' Songbird said about the most-talked-about celebrity secret wedding last month. Regine Velasquez is just one of the celebrities who has been vocal about sharing pieces of advice to newlyweds Sarah Geronimo and Matteo Guidicelli.
Regine and Sarah recently had a successful concert together, and they're both regulars on ABS-CBN's Sunday noontime show ASAP Natin 'To. The former revealed the Popstar Royalty sometimes asks her for relationship advice when things aren't going as smoothly as hoped.
“Ang pamilya mo kasi, pamilya mo, e. Hindi na natin iyon mae-erase," Regine said in an interview with ABS-CBN News. It's typical for family members to have misunderstandings, she added.
"Para kay Matteo, normal lang na minsan may hindi pagkakaintindihan sa in-laws. Normal iyon. Wala namang perfect talaga," Regine said. (For proof that not all in-law relationships are easy, read real-moms' stories here.)
“Ang importante, silang dalawa [ni Sarah]," Regine stressed. "'Pag silang dalawa nagkakaintindihan sila, everything else [follows],” emphasized singer-actress. Husbands and wives should put up a united front, making decisions for your family, and work towards the same goal.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
Regine has been married to singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid for nearly ten years. They have one child together, Nate, 8. She's also a stepmom to Leila and Sarah, Ogie's kids from his previous marriage with Michelle Van Eimeren, former Miss Universe Australia. Regine and Michelle have a good relationship.
Sarah loves her family; she just needed to choose her own happiness
Sarah and Matteo have been together for six years. They& tied the knot last February 20, 2020. Sarah's mom, Divine Geronimo, who was not invited but still showed up unexpectedly, exchanged some hurtful words during the reception. Needless to say, Matteo's relationship with her mother-in-law started on the wrong foot.
Regine believes, however, that Sarah loves her mom and their family. She is optimistic that, in time, all will be okay with Matteo, Sarah, and their families, suggesting to everyone to pray that they all heal from this emotional event in their lives.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOWRecommended Videos
It's no secret that Sarah has been a loving and obedient daughter. “She just needed to choose her own happiness versus her family. And sometimes, nangyayari iyon, na kinailangan din niyang isipin yung sarili niya," Regine said, adding that it wasn't because Sarah was selfish.
Not all dealings with the in-laws are horror stories; there are lucky ones whom their in-laws seem to favor more than their own child. (Click here for real-life touching stories of moms and mothers-in-law.)
Still, relationships with the in-laws, whether you're the husband or wife of their child can be tricky, and everyone can muster through family misunderstandings with respect and love.
