Familiar with Amazon and Shopify? We found a local website that can do what these websites offer -- lets you shop and try out your mompreneur dreams. 

Launched last July 2016, MommyRepublic is the brainchild of two Pinay moms, Kate Yu and Edie Acedera, who met in college but did not reconnect until they were both working for global consumer companies. Working and living overseas made them reflect on the hassles of shopping online and at brick-and-mortar stores in the country.

"We found current options confusing to navigate, and we have been let down by sites that don't sell good quality products," the two women elaborated in an email interview with SmartParenting.com.ph. "We don't have a lot of time to browse online, and we certainly didn't want to spend any more time stuck in traffic!" 

With time-strapped moms, much like themselves, in their minds, they set out to fix their "pain point in life as mothers and as entrepreneurs" with MommyRepublic. Here, they've curated quality baby, kids, fashion and home products all in one place. They even have a directory where you can find services like party planners, home cleaners and furniture makers.

“In MommyRepublic, quality is of utmost importance. We have been let down before by sites that don't sell what their photos say or the price is low but the quality is not there. We want to help change that experience,” says Kate. If you find you fancy any of the items, checkout is a breeze. Shoppers don’t need a MommyRepublic account, but you do have to give an e-mail address so they can send you shipping details, order confirmation slips, etc. The online store accepts several payment options including credit card, Paypal, bank deposit and cash on delivery.

As for shipping fees, MommyRepublic is offering free shipping from August to December, just in time for Christmas shopping.

“As long as mompreneurs have a good product to sell, we take care of the rest -- warehousing, fulfillment, payment collection, customer service, and most of all, marketing and promotions,” Kate said. When you sign up to be a seller, you get this useful guide that aims to help you understand your customers better.

Setting up shop isn’t complicated. First, you’ll need a few documents supporting your product and business (like your BIR, TIN and DTI Registration). Once you have them, the fun part begins. MommyRepublic will need your logo, product photos, and descriptions, a seller’s profile (so shoppers get to know you better), among other things. There’s no registration fee to become a seller. Once that’s settled, get your products packed and in shipping condition to MommyRepublic’s warehouse, and MommyRepublic will handle the rest.

“We take care of the nitty gritty of operations so moms can focus on the important things -- growing their business and taking care of their children,” says Kate. You’ll be able to keep track of your sales and inventory any time without the need to know how to code or program, and payments will be deposited to your chosen bank account. And with that, you’ve got yourself an online store.
