The rising actor was the latest personality to get featured in the Youtube channel of renowned news anchor Karen Davila. In the vlog, Donny shared bits and pieces from his life as a celebrity and as a child.
Becoming a celebrity
Donny said he used to be "so quiet" as a child and did not expect to pursue a career in show business. Looking back, his fascination with the entertainment industry began when he got exposed to it because of his mommy Maricel, who is also an actress.
"It always amazed me when I go to the set with my mom or her friends. When I do commercials as a kid. I never thought it was possible that this (acting) could be my career talaga," he shared.
Donny, however, said that his mom was initially opposed to the idea of him becoming an artista. He says, "She (Maricel) knows what it's like 'di ba. Showbiz is not easy and it's not for everyone."
Coming from a prominent family, you'd think Donny had it easy to enter show business but he refuted this and said his parents pushed him to carve his own path if he wanted to make it as a celebrity.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
"My mom was like, 'I'm not gonna call anyone. I'm not gonna use any connections. If you want to be there, you show me because I don't know if you really know what you're getting into."
Donny held on to his dream despite the challenges and the bashing he used to receive, accusing him of using "connections". Now, Donny is starting to reap the fruits of his labor, getting recognition as one of the heartthrobs of his generation.
Having his parents as his managers
Seeing that their son really wanted to be an actor, Maricel and her husband Anthony Pangilinan became Donny's managers. Donny admits it gets tricky and they do often have misunderstandings but in the end he knows his parents would only want what's best for him.
"Yes there are times we really have fights, miscommunications but we resolve it naman. Because at the end of the day, I know they won't do anything that would hurt me because they're my parents. They still love me," he shared.CONTINUE READING BELOWRecommended Videos
Handling his money
Turning 24 this 2022, Donny admits he still needs a lot of guidance from his parents, especially when it comes to managing money.
When asked who handles most of his finances, Donny says he entrusts this task to his mommy Maricel.
"A lot of my finances, I do have access to it, but my mom is the who, like just keeps it, she gives me like baon from time to time," he said.
Donny adds his mom "knows that if I have it all to myself, sometimes I might get too excited."
It was also in the vlog that Donny shared that he believes in tithing or "giving 10% of your blessings or income to the Lord's storehouse." Asked why he does tithing, he answered, "At the end of the day, when we die, none of these will matter. What's 10% to give back to God?"
This is also consistent with one of the lessons he learned from his parents.ADVERTISEMENT - CONTINUE READING BELOW
