A 32-year-old pilot in Mexico died after the plane he was flying for a gender reveal party crashed. A viral video on X (Twitter) of the incident surfaced, and CNN International reported that the plane flew over the sign “OH BABY” surrounded by pink and blue balloons, together with the expecting couple.
The short video showed the plane flying and releasing pink smoke, which caused the people to celebrate because “It’s a baby girl!”. Only a few seconds after the celebration, the video showed the left wing of the plane breaking, causing the whole plane to crash.
The expecting couple was seen in the video hugging each other then the video was cut short. The plane was a Piper PA-25 and reports are still unclear about the exact cause of the crash.
Luis Angel N., the pilot of the said plane was given first aid at the crash site and then taken to the hospital, where he died. No other injuries were reported.
Gender reveal parties
Gender reveal parties are events organized by the expecting couple or their family to find out the gender of the baby. The gender is a surprise until the final moment of the reveal. The practice stereotypically uses blue for boys and pink for girls.
Some gender reveal parties are simple, like eating cupcakes that have pink or blue icings inside and popping balloons that have pink or blue confetti.

Recently, more elaborate gender reveal parties have been organized. Kryz Uy and Slater Young had a unique gender reveal party last January 2022, which was a sumo fight between a baby boy and a baby girl. The distinct sumo wrestlers were present, and whoever won was the gender of the baby.
Gender reveal accidents
However, since these parties have become ‘complicated’, there are more accidents during gender reveal parties.
In September 2021, a couple’s party ignited a wildfire in El Dorado Ranch Park, Los Angeles. They used a “smoke-generating pyrotechnic device” over Labor Day weekend. This led to the death of a firefighter.
Another couple in October 2022 was criticized for allegedly polluting a 60-foot waterfall with blue dye on its crystal waters in Brazil.
