How to play Google Search's Pokémon easter egg game

Available exclusively on the Google mobile app for Android and iPhone users (Sorry, desktop users, it's not available on your browser just yet), the game is simple and accessible.

To get started, type the name of any of the original 151 Pokémon on your phone's Google Search bar, and a Poké Ball will pop up in the bottom-right corner of the screen. Tap the Poké Ball, and you're ready to start catching Pokémon!

As you search for various Kanto region Pokémon by name, you'll see the Poké Ball icon appear again. Tap it, and the Pokémon will be added to your digital collection, which is tracked in your Pokédex under your Google account.

Some Pokémon, like Ditto, might even bring up a dictionary definition, but just add "Pokémon" to the name to prompt the game to appear.

If you're experiencing issues with the catching game, ensure that you are logged into your Google account. Confirm that "Search personalization" is enabled and that your search history is saved.

Capturing Pokémon and Unlocking Master Balls

The more Pokémon you catch, the more rewards you'll unlock. As you reach milestones, such as catching 5, 20, or 50 Pokémon, you'll earn a Master Ball. These special items are important for capturing the Mythical and Legendary Pokémon from the Kanto region, including Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Mewtwo, and Mew. But be patient, as these Legendary Pokémon won't appear until you've caught enough other creatures from the Pokédex!

Each Pokémon you catch adds to your virtual collection, and it's a fun way to revisit the original Pokémon lineup. While there aren't any specific in-game prizes for capturing all 151 Pokémon, the sense of achievement and the nostalgic experience are rewards enough for every fan.

If you're ready to catch 'em all, open up your Google mobile app and start your hunt for the original 151 Pokémon today!
