Netizens Side With Janella Salvador After Concert Postponed; 'Anak Will Always Be The First Priority'

Star Magic announced on April 10 that Janella Salvador's 10th-anniversary concert "Reimagined" would be postponed "due to unforeseen circumstances."

The concert, originally scheduled for April 19, 2024, at the New Frontier Theater, was supposed to be Janella's milestone event as she celebrates her tenth year in the showbiz industry.

The 26-year-old actress-singer recently made headlines when she declined a request to sing during her guesting on the noontime show, It's Showtime.

Speaking to It's Showtime host Kim Chiu, she politely refused the request for a "sample" and said, "Medyo paos ako today, kayo nalang."

Addressing those who took her response negatively, Janella took to X to explain her side, saying the last thing she would ever want is to appear rude or disrespectful. She clarified that she had already personally apologized to the hosts, but she remained firm in her decision, stating that her refusal was her way of setting a valid boundary.

Janella also called on netizens not to involve her three-year-old son Jude Trevor in the issue.

Recently, Janella shared on Instagram that her son with ex-boyfriend Markus Paterson had an asthma attack, prompting her to cancel some of her mall shows to promote her film, "Under Parallel Skies," with Thai actor Win Metawin, including her concert.

Trying to lighten things up, Janella reposted the announcement about her concert's postponement on X with the caption, "paos kasi sya, kau nlang!!! ayan inunahan ko na kayo mwah."

Nevertheless, Janella explained in another tweet, "…on a serious note, I apologize and am so thankful to all those who have been looking forward to my concert. I’m genuinely excited for this and would love to be even more prepared for the day it finally pushes through. More details to be announced soon and looking forward to still seeing everyone."

Netizens defend Janella Salvador against bashers amid concert postponement

Some netizens were critical of Janella, saying, "Baka kaunti lang bumili ng ticket," or "Na-cancel dahil sa ugali."

However, others took Janella's side to defend her, saying that the celebrity mom is attending to her son who is still recovering from his illness.

"May asthma kasi yung anak niya, kaya sana 'wag muna tayo mang-judge ng kapwa natin," one netizen said in a comment on ABS-CBN's post.

Another one pointed out that while Janella's recent involvement in the issue might be the reason why the concert was rescheduled, but her son's health was the bigger and more important issue. The user said, "Anak will always be the first priority. Dahil sa dalawang reasons na yan parang mas okay na din na i-postpone. Let her son heal and the issue to subside as well."

Janella, who became a mom at 23, has been open about the struggles that came with having a child at the peak of her career.

During her contract renewal with ABS-CBN, she thanked the network for standing by her amid her pregnancy, "And with some people believing that getting pregnant is career suicide and all of that, people around me were all nervous for me. I'm so thankful that we didn't let each other go. We're still here, I stood up for you and you stood up for me, and I'm very thankful for that."

Janella Salvador on asserting boundaries

In an interview with Smart Parenting, Janella admits that her busy schedule at work has been keeping her from spending time with Jude. She also shared that she wants her son Jude to grow up fighting for his rights and asserting his boundaries.

She explained, "I feel like a lot of us in this generation were raised to be people pleasers, to keep saying yes to things. When in fact, we all have our own preferences and boundaries."

Janella added, "I believe na as long as we're working hard, we're passionate, as long as we have a good heart, and as long as our intentions are good, there's nothing wrong with asserting your boundaries and telling people if you're uncomfortable with something."
