In a marriage, what works for one couple may not work for another. Mom of one and newly-married actress Kylie Padilla shared that in her relationship with husband Aljur Abrenica, she chooses to be a submissive wife.
Submission to one's husband is written in the Bible as many Christians would point out, but it has not been a popular stand in the age of women empowerment. Kylie, however, doesn’t mind at all since Aljur often encourages her to be involved in the decision-making process and to do what’s best for her career.
"I think my automatic is submissive, pero AJ (Aljur's nickname) is a feminist. So he always asks my opinion,” the 26-year-old actress told Pep.ph in an interview after the media launch of her new political series, TODA One I Love, on GMA. “Palagi niya ako isinasama, itinatabi niya ako sa kanya. I-express ko raw yung opinion ko sa lahat ng bagay,” Kylie said of her 28-year-old husband.
Kylie explained that she doesn’t feel inferior to her husband because they are equals in every aspect and value each other’s opinions. “I feel, like, I've become 'O, sige, partner tayo' kasi hinahayaan niya ako,” she said of airing her opinions, her plans, and more.
"When it comes to my career, I have the last say,” Kylie clarified. “Siyempre, ipapaalam ko sa kanya yung mga gusto kong gawin. Pero at the end of the day, ako pa rin," she explained.

They have their respective places in the industry which sometimes coincide, like the time she attended the ABS-CBN Ball with Aljur.
His respect for her individuality, and seeing how Aljur is as the head of their family are just some of the reasons why Kylie feels like she’s so much more in love with her husband now than before.

He’s my friend. So I discover more things about him every day. 'Tsaka he's such a good father. He's such a wonderful dad,” she added.
The two were only married last December 2018, but they’ve been together since 2011 (they were apart from March 2014 to September 2016). They welcomed their first child, son Alas Joaquin, in August 2017.

But Kylie sees a different perspective at a working mom’s priorities, saying she feels that her roles don’t have to have a hierarchy. When Kylie is at work, that's her priority. "Pero pag-uwi ko, switch na naman ako, si Alas, tapos switch na naman ako, asawa ko," she said.
