Pasig City is getting another batch of “sana all” comments!
Mayor Vico Sotto, who celebrated his first year in office last June 30, 2020, announced that 138,000 learning devices such as tablets and laptops will be distributed to the city’s public school students to support their schooling under the Department of Education’s distance learning approach.
“138,000 — ibig po sabihin one is to one. One computer or one tablet is to one student,” Sotto said last July 2 during a simple celebration of the 447th founding anniversary of Pasig (social distancing measures in place, of course).
Sotto said senior high school students at Pasig City Science High School will receive laptops while others will be receiving tablet computers. He added the local government will buy 3,500 tablets for enrollees at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig.
In June, the local government of Pasig City raised almost Php1.3 billion to purchase tablets, laptops, and other learning devices for elementary up to senior high school students and teachers in public schools.
And after he made the announcement during the city’s founding anniversary event, the city mayor wasted no time and got to work. The following day, July 3, live streaming of the pre-bid conference for the tablets and laptops was posted on his Facebook account.
In a July 3 post, the mayor said, “Sa mga bidders, alam kong malaking pera ang halos 1.3 billion pesos. We guarantee our transparency and fairness...All we ask is that you follow the law, our rules, and that you only bid if you know you will be able to deliver on time. Salamat po and may the best [lowest price, correct specifications] bidder win!”
