New Parents Can Go On A Staycation In This Postpartum Hotel That Provides 24/7 Care And Lactation Support

You can also get a foot massage while learning to breastfeed and all your meals will be prepared for you and your partner.

Postpartum is probably the hardest and most overwhelming stage a mom goes through--there is joy in seeing your little one, yet there is also sleeplessness, tiredness, and thinking whether you’re giving the best care for your newborn.

While all of this is happening, those around new mom ‘forgets’ to check on her and the focus goes to baby. Mothers rarely receive a “How are you?” after giving birth. Rather it is a barrage of “How’s the baby?”

For many of us, postpartum recovery means recovering at home and if you're lucky, with the support of your parents, in-laws, or hired help. But what if, right after giving birth, you could check in to a hotel that provided 24/7 support for mom and baby, lactation support, three meals a day? In short, a hotel staycation after childbirth plus the support to learn the ropes of taking care of a baby.

Normalizing Postpartum Care

This is what Boram Care in New York City provides. Its aim is “Normalizing Postpartum Care, NYC’s first postnatal retreat, exceptional 24/7 care, support and education,” according to its website description.

Clients can stay anywhere from three nights to 31 nights after childbirth, though its most popular package is a 5-night stay with a $4,300 price tag (approximately Php 236,500). It also offers Boram Care, a virtual postnatal coaching program for those who opt for support without the accommodations.

Social media influencer Tali Benjamin shared their recent experience with Boram Care on her Instagram account. “A total game changer for postpartum moms. @boramcare was the ultimate soft landing for life with a newborn baby,” she said.

Game-Changing Postpartum Care

Based on the reel shared by Tali Benjamin, here are the things they loved (and us too) about their postpartum retreat:

1. Warm welcome

Tali said, “Straight away, there was a smiling face to greet us at the entrance fresh from the hospital.” And sometimes, a smiling face is just enough to relieve fatigue and stress. In addition to this, they were immediately offered lunch and snacks upon arrival. She also added that the retreat feels like being on a vacation, “The team at Boram are like postpartum whisperers, predicting your every need before you even have to ask.”

2. Comfortable hotel room

She then showed them their big and comfortable hotel room, perfect for resting and recovering. It has the usual hotel amenities, but carefully catered for recovering mothers and also fathers. Tali said, “The room was kitted out to everything we need from bassinet to a pair to peri bottles.”

It’s like going home to a nursery not only for the newborn, but also for the mom and dad.

3. Restaurant-quality food

“The three meals served daily are seriously restaurant quality and all thoughtfully crafted nutritiously for a healing body,” they shared, together with the videos of the actual meals they ate. The meals are not only delicious, but also perfect for helping the body heal.

There’s also a mother’s lounge that offers various snacks. “Don’t even get me started on the mother’s lounge filled with this insane snack selection of postpartum gold like Chiyo and Agni.” And if you are a breastfeeding mom, this is perfect, because you always feel hungry!

(And if we’ll have this kind of care center in the Philippines, we bet it will be full of malunggay and halaan!)

4. Massage and foot spa

Giving birth is also letting go of the literal ‘weight’ off of a mother’s physical body--and a postpartum massage is the perfect way to help the body recover. Imagine carrying a ‘big watermelon’ everywhere, then comes labor and recovery--it is exhausting.

Tali also had a sitz bath. A sitz bath is defined by Healthline as "a warm, shallow bath people sit in to cleanse the perineum, which is the space between the rectum and the vulva or scrotum." Another bonus from this postpartum retreat is you can have foot spa and foot bath, all while breastfeeding! That’s the dream!

5. Trustworthy nursery

Another special feature of the care center is their nursery. Why is this special? Because as soon as the newborn baby comes, sometimes parents don’t get the luxury to celebrate or even spend time together. In this care center, they take care of your newborn for a while, while you and your husband can spend some time and celebrate the family you just started.
