Roblox is one of those apps that many families don’t think twice about. It may seem like just a game, and for the most part, it feels harmless. But behind the bright graphics and endless mini-games, there are risks parents should know about. The platform is also a social space where children interact with other users in real time, often without adults seeing exactly what’s happening on screen. That’s what has put the platform under serious review.

How Safe Is Roblox? A Deep Dive Into the Platform’s Safety Issues
Let’s take a deep dive into the unsettling issues with Roblox.
READ HEREPhilippine authorities are considering a nationwide restriction on Roblox after raising concerns about how it protects young users. The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) has given the company 15 days to coordinate with the government and explain how it plans to address these issues. If it fails to respond, access to Roblox could be blocked across the country.
The move comes after a March 24 meeting in Quezon City with the CICC, the National Telecommunications Commission, and major telecom companies. Telcos have said they are ready to implement a block if ordered, showing that authorities are preparing for enforcement, not just discussion.
Why Roblox is under fire
At the center of the issue are reports that the platform is being used in ways that put minors at risk. Authorities have pointed to alleged cases involving grooming, exploitation, and even drug-related activity targeting young users. There are also concerns about how easily children can access chat-enabled environments, interact with strangers, and encounter content or communities that are not age-appropriate.
CICC Executive Director Renato “Aboy” Paraiso said the government had originally given Roblox 30 days to respond to these concerns. That timeline has now been shortened. “Kaya binigyan na lang namin sila ng 15 days… to discuss why we shouldn’t restrict their platform in the Philippine jurisdiction,” he said. He also noted that “not only harmful but illegal contents” are present on the platform.
Authorities are now asking Roblox to directly engage with the Department of Information and Communications Technology and the CICC to lay out concrete steps. That includes how it plans to improve moderation and strengthen safety features.
If the company does not respond within the deadline, authorities could enforce restrictions through telecom networks, making the platform inaccessible in the Philippines. However, some concerned parents and users have noted that tech-savvy kids might still bypass such blocks using tools like VPNs.
As the 15-day deadline approaches, the next step depends on how Roblox responds and how quickly it can address the concerns raised by regulators. Until then, the conversation around online safety, especially for younger users, is only getting louder.
