The Department of Education (DepEd) has announced that the semestral break for Kindergarten to Grade 12 students in public schools will start on Monday, October 21, 2019.
DepEd also announced the classes will resume on Monday, October 28, via a Twitter post on Tuesday, October 15.
According toDepEd Order No. 007, issued on April 22, 2019, the semestral break will be observed to evaluate teachers’ individual and collective performance and conduct School-based In-Service Training (INSET) activities.
INSET is a learning and development activity for teachers designed to improve and update their skills and competencies to then help enhance students’ performance. This activity may include seminars, conferences, workshops, and similar programs, the DepEd order reads.
Meanwhile, report cards are scheduled to be distributed during the parent-teacher conference on October 26.
DepEd has left to the discretion of private schools and institutions the schedule and duration of their semestral breaks, Manila Bulletinreports.
According to Republic Act No. 7797, also known as An Act to Lengthen the School Calendar from Two Hundred Days to Not More than Two Hundred Twenty Class Days, private schools may deviate from the school calendar prescribed by DepEd given that they inform their respective regional office of those changes in advance.
